Bought the plane to go places. Tired of going places solo. I've done all 48 alone. So until that changes, I'm done with flying, well all travel really.

OK. Still, sorry to hear of this, but I do understand there is a social aspect to flying as well. Best of luck in getting it sold.

After 300ish hours solo in my airplane in a little over a year I am getting burned out on solo flying. I just never can find anyone to go on trips with me. Even day trips like down to the coast I end up going solo.
 
Kinda sad to hear, Ed. Now I won't run into you at an airport someday... Hrumph.

Flying alone does get old. I've done much more of it than either Ed or David (probably more than both combined). What I've determined is that a lot of people want to fly, but they don't want to do real trips. Even people who are supposedly trying to build time to further their careers have asked me if I have any shorter trips, they don't feel like flying 8-10 hours in a day. Really? You're trying to build time and you don't want to get a 10 hour block for free in a day? Some people.

I got all excited to solo the other night but called my airport buddy thinking "there is no way he is in his hangar at 7pm on a Tuesday night, he's probably home with his family."

There he was and we stuffed all of him (he is not small) into the 150. That was the longest takeoff roll I've ever done. Climb rate sucked. He had no headset either so for our one lap around the pattern I had one earphone on CTAF - 3 planes in the pattern - and one ear off to talk to him in the plane. Old school.

I can understand the solo complaint, though, because I can't imagine flying half of the places I fly to without another person. In fact, I've only solo'd once since getting my cert in August (three night landings at midnight on a work night). That was in 2011 I think.

Best of luck to you in selling the plane if that is really what you want to do. I thought you would instruct in the plane, but I don't know the insurance details of that.
 
Sigh... I do love Comanches. I really do. It's just sad that Ed's will be long gone by the time my darling bride is convinced (as I am already) that we simply MUST have our own fast, comfy, incredibly sexy plane. With tip tanks.

Or one can agree to whatever she wants during a major remodeling project... it only puts the plane off for another few months, which would be time enough to get the HP & complex endorsements if people will stop putting the club's 182 out of commission.

Dale, you should buy the plane. I flew it for almost 3 hours only 2 days after getting my PPL. Technically it was my first flight as a pilot. That thing has so many cool toys in it, lots and lots of upgrades. Oh and you can land it on a short(ish) grass strip with trees on both sides.
 
I'm not worried about the insurance rates (much). I'm more worried about learning to fly something that much faster & slipperier than a Cherokee or a 172 without killing myself.

I really don't want to threadjack... Ed, that looks like a gorgeous plane. I hope (for your sake, not mine) you're able to get a good price for it sooner than I could buy it. I mean, it must be really special if Kimberly remembers it. Hyuk yuk yuk. Sorry, Kimberly.

Well you can't get a complex endorsement in the 182 because it does not have retractable gear.

I could instruct you in a Debonair that you could earn both the high performance and complex in and it performs about like the Comanche.

Makes sense. I wouldn't stress about it too much though - because most likely whatever you buy the insurance company will require you get some dual time in it and you can earn the endorsements then.

Neither a 182 or Arrow fly anything like a Commanche so there would be little benefit to that investment.

I'm also an approved Comanche CFI for any insurance requirements - at least I now meet the requirements that my insurance required from a CFI when I got it. Landing a Comanche isn't like landing any of the other birds mentioned in this thread, you don't just want to hop in one and wing it expecting it to land like an Arrow, or 182, or Cherokee, etc...
 
Sorry to hear you're selling Ed. Didn't see that one coming either. That's a really nice bird, were I in the market I'd very interested. What is it about POA these days, all these airplanes going for a song!
 
side note, bartmc from his piper board looks interested as the Bo he was looking at seems to have some issues. Reading the above i think he'd do better with this bird anyways, even tho I'm partial to the v-tail looks.
