New to site -- Actor- would love feedback

Since I've never been an instructor - can anyone tell me a good maneuver series for a first ride?

I'll let him take off from the right seat from POC too - I'll handle the rudder though! Its a 260hp airplane - not a 160hp Warrior or Skyhawk

Does any of this involved 0 gravity?:hairraise:
 
As for favorite actors, I don't think I can say I have a favorite. I don't watch much TV, and watch movies even less. But what I can say is that I respect you for coming here to learn from real people doing what you're going to act like you're doing. You are friendly to people outside of your realm, and that says a lot to me.

I don't watch many movies, but when yours comes out, I'll be watching it (provided it's not filled with all of the unnecessary gratutious language and situations that much of Hollywood thinks they need to sell a movie). I hope it's a good one. ;)
 
Just to clarify in case this hasn't been covered earlier in the thread, the "VFR" flight plan that is optional refers to visual flight rules. You don't have to be in contact with air traffic control (ATC) except in certain types of airspace, and you are not allowed to fly inside of clouds, or too close to clouds.

The other type of flight plan is IFR, for instrument flight rules, and does allow the aircraft to fly through clouds. For that type of flying, a flight plan is required in almost all airspace in the U.S., as well as being in radio contact with ATC. Airlines usually fly IFR even when there are no clouds, as it gives an added level of safety. Also, jets burn a lot less fuel when they fly above 18,000 feet, where VFR is not allowed.

I did it twice on commercial airline flights and once on a military C-141 at Newark airport! The crew was more than happy to let me sit and chat with me about the aircraft, as well as take pictures!

The C-141 was there with President Clinton. They carried his limo and the secret service vehicles. I was an airport electrician and my co-worker and I had to setup portable lights around the aircraft before dark.

When we were done, I asked the crew if I could see the cockpit. This was years before I got my PPL. They were very welcoming and took time to explain the systems as well as take a picture of me in the Captain's seat!

So you're probably in NJ by now but on your return flight, ask the stewardess just after landing. Let everyone else rush to get off first....that's what I did:lol:

Please don't be afraid to ask, the worst that could happen is they'd say ...unable.

Oh yeah, congrats on your flight and enjoy your sister's graduation in this heat! I'll be at my daughter's graduation in Montclair, NJ tomorrow....it's going to be outdoors! 90degree heat:yikes:

warm? man it was 97 degrees out there!:lol:

Around 400 grads, 2 hour ceremony....outdoors...in the sun! But it was all worth it! My baby girl is off to college now.

So that's...one finished college and two in....finding money for my flying hobby just got a whole lot tougher:rolleyes:

Oh by the way, Buzz Aldrin graduated from this same high school (Montclair High) in 1946!

Hey maybe my girl will become famous one day, then buy daddy a jet:D

Congrats on your sister's graduation!

Thanks so much for the kind words. It's a two way dance, and if it wasn't for the fact that you all have been so welcoming and helpful, I wouldn't have this chance to get the info.

I hope its a good film too. Any film I do, that would definitely be the plan & you always hope that you can appeal to everyone, but the wonderful thing about life and human existence is that we all have specific tastes and opinions.

With that being said, I definitely hope to make some films that you WILL want to watch :)

Wow - ours was 35 students inside, an hour lol!!

congrats to your daughter and to you guys for the good work! So great!

I'm sure between your three, they'll make the Jet happen ;)
 
Yeah, those are weird and the second is just plain mean.

edit: When I do a pushover, it is just to get the pax light in the seat. If they are up for it. I might see how close I can come to zero g but certainly not looking to have crap floating around the cockpit.

If someone hasn't already mentioned it to you, go find a good school and schedule a discovery flight. This will be a flight with a qualified instructor that will permit you to fly as much as you and he feel comfortable with. Even better, it can count in your logbook as your first official lesson.

Warning though.... You might just join the ranks of us addicted to the freedom being a pilot provides.
 
Well, Joe and I took to the skies again!!! Proud to announce no vomit! I know you were all wondering ;)

It really didn't take long before Joe had me go for it. I took her off the runway!! Wow! I was thinking about it the whole ride home. I just want to say that I have such a great appreciation for you pilots! It is incredible what all goes into it. I as only responsible for like 4 or 5 things and I was practicing extreme focus to manage!! Lol

It was incredible!! I'll see if I can post the video I took...look MA, no hands!! Kidding...

Just wanted to fill you in quickly since last time you guys almost banned me from not posting right away ;)

LOL Ace - a guy offered me THREE TIMES (three different flights) to take off in his six seater Bonanza. I said no three times. Lots of people refuse to do the takeoff. Good for you for doing it.
 
I skipped the pushover- but we did a couple steep turns - a stall - I showed him how power controls altitude - we trimmed for a speed, straight and level - and pushed the power forward and up we went - then did the opposite - pulled the power to idle and down the nose goes -

I handled the rudder for him on take - 260hp can be a handful to a new pilot - but he pulled it off great, handled the climbout fine as we transitioned to gear up then flaps up - he turned it and stayed out the Ontario Class C - we paralleled the 210 - staying north - I let him try to fight the airplane to stay at 3500' - everyone starts out chasing the needle until we all learned to let the airplane fly and that trim is our friend -

We transitioned to straight and level over Rialto - did some standard rate and some steep turns, he learned positive exchange of control, over all - except when I took it to do the power off stall - he was flew the plane until we entered the ONT Class C on the way home.

Now he knows how easy it really is! On a clear day with no bumps and no traffic - a perfect first flight!

As long as he kept his feet off the rudder for the take off he was fine!

I always like the part where it is LOOK MA! NO Hands- Ace was little surprised when after we got it back to 3500 straight and level and I trimmed it - and he had no hands on the controls and I had no hands on the controls - and no autopilot and by golly - there we were - straight and level and staying at 3500!

Sounds like this could be an interesting movie. I didn't read through all of the posts... is there a date set in stone for beginning production?

I got to fly some of the crew for the last pirates of the Caribbean movie. They were doing some work in Louisiana. But, Keira Nightly does look twice as hot in person... Just sayin' :D

I have flown with girls as my passengers (and some were jet pilot captains, thanks). The only "girl" who flew me around in her airplane has grandchildren now. She did let me fly her plane over the Bay Tour which was fun. Mooneys are great. Other than her, I have only been in airplanes with male pilots acting as PIC.

You should be commended for your interest in something to bring more reality, and accuracy to your craft. As we've said before, often aviation is just butchered by the media and entertainment industry. As is medicine, law, business, and most other professions. However, a little research goes a long way, plus flying is FUN!

That's for sure...I flew a beautiful Bonanza that one of my instructors has access to from the right seat, and he had me do everything but the landing (didn't want a lowly 70 hour sport pilot landing a nice $100k+ Bonanza that he wasn't insured in...go figure :)). I felt like I had the right rudder to the floor on takeoff. 280 hp, I think. Maybe.
 
Kimberly - why were you so afraid to take off a Bo? So what if your 152 only has 95hp, or whatever, if you learned to fly in a 300hp Cirrus then t would be part of your skill set from the get go -

I see a recurring thread of fear in your flying - and you need to get past it.

It had gear etc. I don't know, it wasn't my plane, I've only been offered "straight and level" flying before. I flew it for several hours (he turned off the autopilot) but that was just rudders and yoke. I feel like takeoff and landing are kind of - well - important.

Then later after we landed I discovered not only is the guy a CFI, he was a pro pilot and has owned dozens of planes. If I knew that in the beginning it would have been "heck yeah I want to take off". The most accomplished people often never brag about it. I also found out he spent 10 years at SFO / SJC as a tower controller.

Understood. There was gear, prop, you know - lots of things I don't have to worry about in my plane. Now, if a 150 pilot said "you do the takeoff" - well of course I would.
