HAHA! yes, it was all because of you, thank you Kimberly! And fret not, it wasn't simply googling Valium, Pilot and you popped up. I came across this site, then dug within it lol I'm just a good snooper ;)

Since your in the area, you should head over to Van Nuys airport and go to Signiture Aviation. It is an FBO that has many Corporate jets arriving and departing. You may be able to talk yourself into a cockpit tour if your film calls for a corporate jet over a comercial jet like a boeing. Also there are many good schools there as well worth looking at for a discovery flight if you like.

Also Santa Monica has a nice school, but if you were to train there you would occasionaly have some weather issues with fog and such much more over Van Nuys. I currently train out of Van Nuys

Oh and Vallium is OK..Ted Stryker uses it to keep his sweating down..

I am picking up fast from you guys. I was clueless what FBO was, when the first couple of people mentioned it! LOL! I WILL have to google TED STRYKER though...don't shoot me..down ;)

Thank you so much. I must say, we don't always get the opportunity or time to do great research, but I get really into this part of the process . Sometimes my work and research has more time spent on it, than the actual material. But for me, it works. The material, I can learn, but the WORK ahead of time helps inform what I do with the words I guess :)

Sometimes it is fun to watch a bad horror movie. If you get REALLY bored, you can watch it sometime. I streamed it off Amazon one evening a while back while very bored and somewhat inebriated.

In fact, I just helped produce a few films and one of them was a horror film called MADISON COUNTY, that has attached a good deal of buzz for being a smaller film. I've done a few episodes of Soap work, but I've kept it too a minimum, it's not really my preference. Yes, small world indeed. I rarely visit Newark anymore just occasionally to see family. I live in NY now, about 15 mins from JFK.

Speaking of graduations. My daughter graduates at the same time from Montclair High (she lives with her mom).

Hey, did you do residential or industrial electrical work? I started off in residential but only did that for a couple of years (wasn't too crazy about working in people's nasty homes and apartments):no:. We had to work in a flea infested home one time, in Sussex, NJ :eek::yikes:.

I switched from that over to Industrial work in 1986 after being hired at Newark airport. I installed and maintained the runway/taxiway lighting. Also worked at LGA.

As for the horror movies, yes I can watch them once in awhile so maybe I'll check it out with my wife, she loves horror movies.

That is why I try to never watch trailers. I love movies. I also love being surprised. These days, the trailers give away most of the surprises. Since I don't watch TV and can avoid them on the web easily, I don't have to have my movies spoiled.

Anyway, I watched this one (not blaming you, I wanted to). Reminds me of Alaska Airlines Flight 261. Mayday did a good reconstruction of that in S01E06. Denzel looks to have had some sort of similar elevator/stab failure and rolled the plane for an upside-down landing. Do not see why that would not be at least in the realm of possibility. Any plane can be rolled and, IIRC, 261 was inverted just before impacting.

edit: yeah, I just looked at the Mayday episode, this is definitely modeled on that flight. They had a jackscrew in the tail fail due to bad maintenance and force the nose down. An analyst on the show even mentions how they continued trying to fly even when upside down. The movie gives it a happier ending and adds the personal element.

Not saying it is likely or probable, just that it is in the realm of possibility. It is overkill on the writer's part, IMO. They took the 261 crash, mixed it with the Hudson landing and added this "what if" regarding the alcohol. They could have stuck with something like the Hudson but obviously wanted something even more miraculous than that.

Say, nose down to -10 degrees, I feed in full aileron (and pro rudder) you're saying that action (in and of itself) would cause me to exceed structural limits????

Depends on the airplane, how close you were to red-line at the start, and how well you pull it out at the end. But as you start to roll, the nose drops pretty quickly. If you start nose down, you end up way nose down. (This assumes a simple crank the yoke over and not a more coordinated "Slow Roll" using elevator and top rudder.)

It turns out Ted Stryker is a different (and real) person. The one he needs to Google is Ted Striker.

At first, I confused that name with Jeff Stryker. LOL. Then I learned something interesting about the Ted Stryker/Striker in the films.

Thanks, I was trying to remember the name of that film.

Among other things, in one scene in particular I thought the actors did a good job of portraying the dead tired look that pilots get after a full day of search flying.

RESIDENTIAL...ohhh...not fun...trust me, I can relate! How fun, that your electrical background led you to fly. My electrical background was the thing that got me into acting easily...at least theatre! I was doing technical theatre for a while, then started stage managing before I was tired enough from watching everyone else do what I wanted to do ;)

Let me know if you ever catch the movie, and no pressure at all to enjoy it. I'm not that kind of person...I'm just grateful someone dedicates time to it. I can't repay anyone for their time!

Well, I'm sure you can attest, but not all trailers give it all away, in fact a lot give away a different vibe altogether from the actual film...I have a friend who watched it..I think you may be surprised with the final product.

Good to see that flying upside down isn't that far fetched. You would know more than I would. AMAZING that you knew what episode to reference!

This is clearly all over my head, but I am absolutely fascinated by it all.

I'll ask maybe a question that would make you all cringe, but have you done this?? LOL

I'm not at ALL trying to bust anyone's chops, but I was even more confused, because apparently Ted Stryker is a Disc Jockey! Now...I figured out there was a little spelling error on the name...I must say, considering the references in this circle, I was surprised to see this simple error ;)

I think I'm going to watch AIRPLANE tonight and bust out my pad and pen for notes :yikes:
 
I was going to ask what OP means. I see a few of you referred to me as that. So I googled it and didn't find the answer, but a site called FLYERTALK.com popped up. Is that a rival site or something?? ;)

Actually I enjoyed roughing in new construction. You know, before the building is occupied:wink2:.

Oh, I wouldn't say my electrical background led to my flying. They were both childhood passions which grew up together. I just had the opportunity to get into the electrical at an early age but the flying didn't become a reality until I was 33. It only developed into a hobby.

However, working at the airports was definately a tremendous advantage. When I finally started taking lessons, I was already familiar with airport signs and layouts, radio transmission, proceedures, etc. Also many years of PC Flight Simulators:yesnod:

That's really cool, that your electrical work led you to acting career.
