Flying Wild Alaska

What is the purpose of that metal pole that is always seen hanging under the tail of the 208 when they are on the ramp ?
they place it under the tail to support it when the fat pax climbs aboard and it stops the tail from hitting the ground, dumping the fat pax on the ground and then raring up again.

Some Lears are like that too....

Maybe one of the Colorado guys/gals can chime in here....

A while back a based customer here that flies a new Cessna Mustang jet, I think the model number is a 510.... Anyway he was traveling down in Colorado during a heavy snowstorm and the FBO didn't have any hangar space left so they had to leave it on the ramp... It snowed several inches and it must have been prettywet snow.. As the lineguys brushed snow off the plane the next day they did the wings first, then the fuselage and before they could get the horizontal stab swept off the thing did a 'wheelie' and hit the ramp tail first..... It TOTALLED the plane and the owner ended up with a new one since Cessna could not fix it properly... I think Cessna now provides a tail support rod for the 510 model to prevent this from happening again.... That was one expensive wheelie though.

Ben.

A friend let me know the other day that he saw production people heading out to Unalakleet from Anchorage. Could be another season is getting started.

I think the last episode (maybe second to last) was her solo

That's correct. She solo'd in the last or next to the last show of the season. She goes to college in Southern California, so I would expect them to have more of her flight training filmed by the beginning of the next season in the Fall.

I've already DVR's the series, then the wife deleted all but one episode, (that I've watched at LEAST 5 times) but I really enjoy the show! I agree that the main Tweto gal, Ariel gets my blood going somewhat, but she cracked me up when she talked about the contest they have every year watching the ice melt in the river. Ariel said, "I think it's kinda funny,........you know, Eskimos sitting on the river bank watching the ice melt!" When she said that, I fell out of my recliner laughing! I've hunted Alaska and flown some up there in Super Cubs and a Beaver, but I love that country! When God created the world, he started in Alaska, and did his best work there.

Bad on the wife for deleting the episodes......
