Every week there is a new update. And, you have to babysit the installation with five mouse clicks.

Why can't it just be YES....................done.

Use Google Chrome as your browser. It updates itself silently on startup (and does the same with flash).

really? five mouse clicks?

But I agree flash is a PITA. I hope to see it go away. Far far away.

Hopefully HTML 5 Will Kill Flash.

Maybe. Bad code is bad code and I'm convinced that a lot of the crap with Flash is due to poorly written applications creating memory leaks and such. HTML5 won't solve that.

As long as everybody thinks that those $6/hour offshore coders with 1 year of training are just inherent geniuses...

Apple machines run Flash just fine Tom. Apple mobile devices running iOS don't.

The reason is that Flash is an enormous resource hog and battery killer.

Adobe never built any bloatware they didn't like. :)

Flash was ahead of its time and single-handedly created interactive media delivery on the web.

I was a Macromedia guy (AuthorWare) and wasn't impressed with the initial versions of Flash (It was FutureSplash IIRC, and Director was still The Big Thing). But later versions added lots of value long before anything else.

Not being part of the OS doomed its long term viability, though.

While I intensely dislike Flash for any number of reasons, iOS's lack of support make the iDevices far less useful for my purposes because of the inability to access some websites that I use regularly. If it were just one or two, it would not be a big deal - but it's considerablly more & is particularly nettlesome if I'm traveling.

There are several 3rd party web browsers in the iTunes store that will re-render Flash.

Some free, some not. I use Skyfire, which is okay in a pinch.

Not that I've tried, but I'm willing to bet that the pr0n sites are the ones with the least trouble.

Some travel sites that I use regularly don't work w/Safari on the iPad.
