Just took the bottom end of an O320 and a bunch assorted cylinders up to a local engine shop. Cargo compartment full, back seat full, four cylinders on the floor in front of the back seat and two belted into the copilots seat.

Add 60 gallons of 100ll and a 200lb pilot and I was sitting pretty a 2805lbs almost a full 200 shy of max.

The cg?

Couldn't have been closer to the center of the range if I'd have tried:D

They are great haulers aren't they?

Nice.

The RV guys will be along in a minute to tell you their birds are better. ;) ;) ;)

I'm suprised they haven't already, guess I found a trick it doesn't do better.

Heck need a 10 to even pull it off.

I wouldn't use my RV as a hauler. Different planes, different missions.

But if you do want an apples to apples comparison, the RV10 is a very close match. The weight numbers vary from plane to plane, but you're looking at ~1100 lbs of useful weight with the 10, which is right in line with the 182. And you'll be zipping along a good 30 kts faster in the 10 ;)

56 C182 jump plane. Me the pilot and 5 skydivers to 14,000 ft. No problem. Enough said. I also own a RV7. 178kts true on 10gph. Don

Oh man! I sure miss my old '65 182. It had aftermarket RayJay normalizing turbochargers, and was a great hauler. Perfect for high-altitude trips crossing the Sierra Nevada when I lived in the Bay Area.

........ and only burning 10.5 gph of mogas.

Come on guys, spam cans just cannot compete.
