W&B and obstinate pax

Now that I've been pretty active instructing I really can't drink much at all because there are so many flights throughout the week along with last minute calls.

Nobody likes a bragger, Jesse. ;) :D :D

Booze, wine, and beer go quick at the Steinholme.

I have high test sodas that will be around for some time.

You mean the Sam Adams I have in my fridge that is over a year old probably isn't drinkable? Yeah, I ended up with beer at my house - which I never drink, and it just stays there. I think I have some Coors light in the garage that's over 3 years old.

You just hit on something - I think someone has finally found a good use for Coors Beer - Ballast!

Just goes to show how long it takes some guys to clean out their fridge/house/garage. :wink2:

Actually the garage has been cleaned out a few times since. Now I just keep it around because. Fridge gets emptied out every few weeks. I just keep the beer around to give to someone I don't like.

Kimberly - you just gained 10 bonus points in my opinion! :D

My cherokee 140 has a somewhat limited useful load (and has a forward CG limit). I tell my potential pax that I can carry upto xxx pounds in the front seat. If he/she won't agree to confirm that he/she is less than than that, then I can either guess or don't fly.

Years ago as a student I was doing a W&B before a flight with my CFI. She gave me her weight of 127lbs. I wrote down 135.

She told me "127"

I said I was just being conservative and making sure we were under the max gross and...

She told me "127"

I said but...

"127"

um.

"I said '127'"

ok, 127

My CFI was 5' 8" and apparently somewhat self-conscious about her weight (and for absolutely no reason)

"Ok, Lady. Is that 'with' or 'without' clothes? And how are we doing today's flight?"

"Yeah, ok, 135."

Sure, try that and she'd kick your butt into next week.

Ok so I have a question.

would it make a difference if the person who wouldn't give you their weight is flying in a plane that is taking off from a treadmill? Further how would flying a heavy person off of a treadmill affect the Take off distance to clear a 50' obstical such as the pine trees at the end of 24?:stirpot:

I'm guessing you like snowmobiles?

That snowmobile was decades old - a Bravo children's snowmobile dug up from under the log cabin. I have driven others which are way better (newish Yamaha 4-stroke Vector, older Yamaha 2-stroke Mountain Max, some Ski Doos and others).

The Vector:

Ed,

I aged some lagunitas brown shuga for a year, and it was a LOT better..;)

Its California, Kent. She's in short sleeves because it's warm out.

It was like June or July in the back mountains of Tahoe (literally the guys just pulled off to the side of the road and snowmobiled for the day with GPS).

Seriously, the temps got above 80 and everyone started riding around without shirts on!

I am the COLDEST girl on earth. If I was wearing short sleeves you bet your life it was hot that day. Normally I'm bundled up and look more like the Michellin Man - I think during blizzards and "midnight rides" on snowmobiles I wear 4+ layers.

Me = wuss!

I used to, until Daisy Fuentes said I shouldn't.

Yeah, I'm kind of a snowmobile nut - and more specifically, the older ones. I'm doing a restore/rebuild on a pair of 1980 Arctic Cats. Altho my son is really kind of ticked at me that I tore them down last year and didn't get the job done so he/we missed last winter's riding.

Got it. The one in the picture was pretty old. I don't know how year after year of neglect it keeps running....
