Anyone familiar AeroTrek aircraft?

I'm looking at LSA and am curious about the Aerotrek. I like the fact that you can fold it's wings and trailer it somewhere.

Anyone seen one in person or even flown one? Anybody actually have one?

We've been waiting for you to buy one and report back.

Looks like a KitFox clone (which was a clone of the Avid Flyer).

The cruise speed appears to be a bit optimistic to me - but I could be wrong.

Fwiw - my Merlin GT is similar but probably with a lot fatter wing and a bit heavier. It is easy to fly, but those full span ailerons generate a lot of adverse yaw - I can slip pretty hard but only use a little rudder - that's taking some getting used to.

On the Avid Flier - they were combination flaps / ailerons but people I've talked to don't typically use the flap function.
 
There was a question about Aerotek at Sport Pilot Talk forum yesterday, too. I am wondering if anything in particular prompted it.

If you are looking at Aerotek, make sure to look at X-Air too. There was an owner at Purple Board who posted videos to Youtube. One guy who is based on the same airport wrote that "his cheap LSA sees more use than many more expensive planes at the field". Aerotek seems like a very similar design to X-Air: fabric wings fold, Cub-style dual wing brace. Price is somewhat similar, too: $59k+ and $69k+ versus typical $116-125k for C-162, MC and CTLS, SportCruiser, etc. I think it's a significant difference.

You sure the Avid was out before the Kitfox? I thought the Kitfox was first...:dunno:

No, the Avid was first. According to an interview with Dean Wilson, he designed the Avid Flyer, and Dan Denny bought a couple of examples. A bit later, Denny brought out the Kitfox, which has major parts interchangeable with the Avid. Big lawsuit ensued, with the judge finally deciding it should be settled in the marketplace.

Back on the subject of the AeroTrek, met a guy at the home drome who had one. He really liked it. He'd bought a largish trailer and parked it on a tiedown spot, and folded the wings and tucked the plane away after every flight. Saved him hundreds of bucks a month in hangar rent...

The powers-that-be here at M17 are pondering charging anyone who trailers in a plane a fee.

Suffice it to say that, though there isn't anyone here with a foldable/trailerable plane yet, we are nonetheless ... concerned... about this among other items...:incazzato:

Thats something I've wondered about with these planes -- would an airport let you leave an airplane in an enclosed trailer on a tiedown spot you're renting?

I imagine if you are paying them rent and have an aircraft in the trailer then why wouldn't they - the trailer would be a make shift hangar it would seem

That's the situation for the AeroTrek I mentioned. The trailer sits on the tiedown spot full-time. Airport's fine with it, since the guy pays rent.
