Colorado Pilots...

Is Ed Nelson still managing KSNY? I haven't seen him in years. In fact... Oh wow... Logbook says it was December 28, 1993. Wow.

Need to hook up with y'all for the next Colorado adventure... C-182 KAPA based.

Nate

How the heck did I miss this thread?

'Cuz it started the first part of DEC 10?

(sorry, couldn't resist the computer joke)

So let's start once again.

Here we are in the early days of '11, Saturday is forecast for partly cloudy/sunny, highs in the mid 40s, pretty nice along the entire Front Range.

Suggestions? Clark can show us those nifty manuevers for the Commercial ride. Commercial.

Hey, even I saw it and I don't live there anymore. :D

Saturday, eh? might be good to get a flight in before my company exiles me to Miami for the spring ... will keep an eye here.

Hey Nate - sorry you missed it - didn't I post up a FB notice beforehand, or just on arrival?

Murph - since it was DEC 10, should we not have flown to PDP or RSX instead of SNY? TTY is too busy...

Saturday might could work. Looks like a chance of snow in the late afternoon fwiw.

(*chortle*)

'tis a shame none of those are real identifiers. neither is VAX, altho there is RCA. Closest I can find are MA91 and 2MA5, neither of which are spiffy but are heliports not far from the original offices on Main.

Still trying to understand the computer joke...

Hmmm, I'm off on Saturday (wonders never cease) so that could work for me, but as always I have my thumb out.

Well, if the Wx gods are nice, then I should be available too. Plane is out of annual and ready to go. Since I didn't get to fly last month, this month's flight budget is a little fatter!

Well, you could fly with Clark and critique his new Commercial rating...

As for DEC 10 --- DEC was the abbreviation for Digital Equipment Corp (one of the 7 Sisters or 7 Dwarfs, depending on your perspective) in the 70-90s). The DEC 10 was a computer product line along with the PDP-8, PDP-11, VAX, etc. RSX was the name of one of the operating systems (along with RSTS). For those of you running MS Windows, the former Chief Architect (Operating Systems) left DEC and went to MS back in the 90s.

It's a Geek thang.

It would be interesting to observe...

I've got wrenches and tin snips. It'd take awhile...

(The Dakota and the Arrow share the same wing structure. The engine mount would have to be changed.)

OK, I've been off the board for a while and missed the cool trip (I was out of state).
But I'd love to get out somewhere this Saturday! Wendy's got to work Friday from midnight to 5am, so I'll be bacheloring it Saturday.

Of course now there's the decision on where to go...

GXY is a short hop (for most) so maybe we could get in some rides in new/different aircraft.

CYS has okay food too but I'm not so sure that they would appreciate the business the way SNY did.

I suppose COS and Solo's is an option.

Other suggestions?

On a weekend, Pueblo is always good. Low volume traffic, agreeable tower, food pretty good.

I like CYS simply because it is about 100nm closer to me than PUB, but the wx looks questionable for me right now according to NOAA.

If'n your a Windoze Geek, you'll know that Chief Architect shoe-horned VMS into a cutsie little o/s variant called Windows NT 4.0. Ok, not exactly, but hey, if you build a widget for company A and then just happen to build a widget for company B that looks sorta kinda just like widget A, you blame it on "personal style" :)

What's at CYS now? Last I heard there was no restaurant on field and the one within walking distance had closed.

Hey Eric - how ya' been? Haven't heard from you in ages! Still flying the Mooney?

Greg, yeah, I've been pretty quiet. I retired the end of January and have been busy on a few projects.

Sold the Mooney in Feburary. It was either sell or invest a bunch. I got lucky and sold it pretty quick. Bought a Jabiru J-230 in November.

I've been lurking but without a plane I put less time in aviation. Good to be back in the air.

Eric

Well guys, the other "cohort in crime" -- otherwise known as one of the other hosts on my podcast (Doug) tossed me an e-mail today and he's itchin' to give rides on his brand spankin' new Private ticket... :hairraise:

So I agreed to play "dumb passenger" sometime on Saturday. It's not much of a stretch, believe me. :) :goofy:

He said he has his rental Skyhawk at KAPA sometime "afternoon". So, depending on what the WX does, I may go buzz around a bit prior to that flight in the 182, just to get it out of the barn at least once this week, or wait until Sunday for that...

So depending on what you guys come up with, maybe we can put Doug's fresh-off-the-presses Private rating and his XC skills to the test, but I bet you'd be leaving pre-noonish for this flight if it's a lunch stop.

I tend to tweet/facebook anytime I'm anywhere near KAPA, even if it's just for hangar stuff... @denverpilot on Twitter and denverpilot will find me on facebook.com/denverpilot over there if you're into such instant social type stuff. And MileHighFlyers on iTunes for the podcast, of course... :D

Hi Eric! Good to hear from you. Hey, big news, no more Mooney but you got a Jabiru. How do you like it? It looks pretty capable from the specs.

I went with Doug right after he got his ticket (last Tuesday). Dumb passenger was easy, no one's a polished as they are right after their checkride :)

I've offered him a non-equity position in my Cherokee for fuel and a nominal hourly rate, but the drive to FTG and the rental rates at JEFA makes it hard to pass up.

I've got the Dakota from 10a-3p on Saturday ... and tentative clear schedule agreement with my wife.

Ooh, you're here on PoA Alan? Nice.

We could plot evil and nasty things for Doug here, and he wouldn't know, since he doesn't have time for things like online message boards.

I think Doug gave you a shout-out in the next MHF episode, I forget if that was while we were recording, or the always-happens extra hour or two of Skyping that goes on that's not being recorded with whoever can hang around on "podcast day". (Typically Sundays.)

And as we joked in the episode, I'll probably have this one edited and released by oh, say... Halloween. Ha. Instrument Rating is on the "front-burner" right now, if we can figure out if our AI in 79M is going to go Tango Uniform or not. Avionics shop wants us to have the vacuum regulator cranked up higher to either speed the death process along, or stabilize it, since we had vacuum work done last year. (New vacuum regulator, old one decided to go off scale high/low depending on RPM, and a new filter as a leak was found there.)

They said they'd swap in an AI for somewhere in the range of $1200 depending on the unit, including labor, if we wanted to just get it done immediately -- and if any of us were serious IFR pilots flying in the system all the time, I'd have pushed for that... but we're not... the AI flopping over on an irregular basis, only annoys 1/3 of the LLC owners right now, namely me... since the Instructor would probably like the OPTION of which instrument to fail for my partial-panel work, once I get started with this flying. Ha. So I'll have to let this go through the "process"... crank up the VR and wait... and see what happens...

I've offered him a non-equity position in my Cherokee for fuel and a nominal hourly rate, but the drive to FTG and the rental rates at JEFA makes it hard to pass up.

Yeah, but he NEEDS Cherokee time, right?

Nice to see you on here, and to meet you "virtually" Alan. Well, I guess we had about a 10 minute hello at Oshkosh, but that doesn't count, does it?

Nate

Hopefully you and Doug can make the get together Saturday, if we can come up with a place.

Is Raton too far away?

For those of us with slower airplanes, RTN is almost 2 hours each way, and other than the burgers at the airport, an incredibly boring place. Someone suggested BFF. I don't know if the airport cafe at Canon City (1v6) is open (wasn't last week) but there are some great little cafes in town, once you get past all the fast foodies.

There's Goodland, Cheyenne has also been mentioned.

Looking at the forecast for Saturday, I think we're gonna be hunkering down somewhere near Denver.

GXY is boring but it's a 1/2 hour for everybody 'cept that guy who lives in the middle of the bumps.

I'll offer to burn brats-n-burgers at my hangar but we know how that goes (freezing!).

Sat - partly cloudy with a high in the mid 40s - sounds lots better than last time at your hangar!

Yeah, I noticed Saturday was getting better on the long-term forecast, and Sunday was getting worse, too. I won't complain!

Can't go this weekend. Cherokee is in the shop :( ..... getting a new GPS/COM :) Oh yeah I'm not complain', well except for the 15.6 AMU pricetag.

Well, I think I am out. Wx doesn't look to good for Saturday up here in the bumps. Also, I have to fly down to BJC tomorrow for business to hand select some wood for a project/picky customer.

"Have to fly down to BJC" ... I love your attitude Tony!
