Attached is a photo that I took from the balcony outside my hotel room last Sunday. When I landed at Jennings on Sunday, the FBO was closed and no one was around. I had NO idea where the Holiday Inn was, so I started taxiing around the airport. I finally headed for the line of buildings east of the grass runway, looking for the Holiday Inn. I couldn't find a Holiday Inn sign, so I finally parked next to the fence to go exploring. The Holiday Inn is no longer there because it's now a Day's Inn....that was why I couldn't find it.
I didn't know there was a paved parking area north of the Quality Inn to the north of the Day's Inn until the next morning when I went exploring...I should have parked there even though the hike with all my stuff would have been longer. But, I found the tie-down anchors for the Stearman fly-ins in the grass and tied down to one of those.
Walker's was open when I checked in, but when I went down to eat, they had closed early for Mother's Day. So, I went next door the the little restaurant in the truck stop and had some yummy chicken gumbo and crawfish étouffée.
Several people talked with me when I was walking back and forth, doing stuff with the airplane. They were curious.
A lady who was working at the Day's Inn hollered at me through the fence and asked if I was a woman pilot. She said she'd never seen a woman pilot before. She said all the Stearman pilots from the Stearman fly-in that she ever saw were men, so she had never seen a woman pilot.
If I ever go back there, I'll stay at the Quality Inn next door to the Day's Inn. It looked much cleaner.
I went to the Gulf Air FBO the next morning and bought fuel from them. The line guy kept asking me if I wanted to buy fuel at the other place since it was cheaper, but I'm not very good at self-fueling since I'm short and the hose and nozzles are usually so heavy.
BTW, I'm glad no one was there at the airport when I landed. It was my second worse landing of the trip.
