Yesterday I had a trip to Austin with a day to kill there, so I rented a car and, besides the usual restaurant hunting and mandatory trip to Amy's, I went to visit the capitol building. Apparently it is very open to the public; you can stroll around most of the floors, examine the incredible architecture and finishes/furnishings. Absolutely cavernous interior.

There is a fascinating exhibit on at UT of dissections of the human body which I caught. Although controversial, this has incredible educational potential; especially for those in the medical field.

That is a nice place to visit...used to go down there to work with a professor there. I second your recommendation.

I have been going to Austin every 3 months for over 10 years to visit my wifes mother who is an Austinite. Never get tired of it and it is so nice just to visit the new Blanton Musuem, 6th street. the Texas Musuem and of course the Capital. Bikes are great for the down town area. Even flew my PA 28 180 from New England to AUS once. long trip but fun. after that got a nice Beech Deb

if you are able to infer some depth into the photo, yes that's it.
Looking down over the balcony, or up into the dome was....dizzying.

Austin is, hands down, the epicenter of Texas. All that is good and all that is bad is there. The rest of the state, vast as it is, reflects itself in it's capital city. If you could, heaven please forbid, just go to one place in Texas--that would be it.
