Blue, Red, Purple?

I'm new to the Blue Board. Just wondering how it differs from the red and purple ones.

We're the smart polite ones.

Actually, a lot of us are on more than one board. The different boards seem to have different personalities.

Welcome aboard Ken.

Welcome Ken!

My 2 cents (I'm a member of all three, but spend the vast majority of my time here):
Red has the highest volume by far. All aviation, and conversations can get very heated. Seems like more flaming than I prefer, and newbee questions can get flamed. The management is by the AOPA and their designees.

Purple is the relative newcomer. People are really friendly, but the threads seem to be even more off topic than they are here. (Again, that's my opinion, and I don't hang there enough to make an entirely impartial view.) It's Kim's baby, and she takes care of it with a whip and a smile! :)

Blue is the only one that can be read without being a member. That means that we try to be cognizant that our postings are picked up very quickly by Google and the like. There is good management by a council, which can slow down decisions, but tends to dispel knee-jerk reactions.

All three of the boards have members who get together in the real world. My sense is that the Blue Board does more of these, but there's so much spill over between the boards that it can be hard to say.

I'm sure that others have differing opinions. I encourage you to hang out on all three of them (as time permits).

Oh, the user interface across the three is very similar, because they're all running pretty much the same software.

I'm still lost, if this is the blue board, links to red and purple?

Red = you have to be part of a club. (AOPA member)
Purple = you have to be part of a clique (they won't let you in unless you register)
Blue = you just have to be you, and even then you can be CowboyPilot.

I was told "Join this group, they're good."

2.5 years later I have yet to disagree with that statement.

I hear the Purple Board likes pancakes, though. I am not a fan of pancakes.

This sums up the Blue Board ( Pilots of America) We are the front porch of aviation! Welcome. We hope you hang around and participate.

Well, kinda. We keep Nick chained up out back.

Someone say pancakes? :D

What possesses someone to take a such a picture?

I'm baffled. Maybe it's my low blood level from having donated...

Well, it has to do with the Purple Board and Tony brought up pancakes.

Randy, I had to laugh, at least a Tablespoon of some sort of Maple syrup left on the plate, no telling how much was absorbed by the pancakes you ate, and then I see you're watching your weight because of the packs of Splenda for your coffee... :D:rofl:

I love pancakes and that is one food that I will blow my low carb diet for, on occasion.

Well, it is a once a month (EAA Chapter Pancake Breakfast) luxury I allow myself to indulge in. I follow a low carb regimen myself. Many years ago I used Atkins to go from 261 to 209 in a few months. Now I'm working to get down there again and hopefully below 200 this time. The photo didn't show the eggs, sausage and gravy & biscuits that were on the plate before I started. :D

Yep. We seem to have a bit of a pancake obsession on the Purple Board...which could mean we're really just a bunch of "flapjack flyers"...or we have a high tolerance for fun and games.

Actually, Ken, the purple board was created a couple of years ago when people from the red board kept getting in trouble for "visiting" in threads there. I totally respected their policy regarding non-aviation posts and instead of being in the dog house over there all the time we started our own board -- for visiting. We do talk about aviation a bit. We even occasionally have an interesting thread or two.

Mostly we just visit...(and meet up for pancakes.) ;)

All these boards are good sources of information and friendship...great people on every one and, like Joe said, many of us are members of all three. (And, as Ed said, you DO have to register for the purple board. But you have to register here, too, if you want to actually participate.)

They DO seem to have an awful lot of "stickys" over here...:D

so, is it safe to assume you took the shot in order to respond?

I took the shot on Saturday for a thread on the Purple Board. Tony brought up pancakes so I posted the picture.

Sorry if the picture of my pancakes upset you. :skeptical:

I am not sure to be sad or happy at the picture you posted. Sad that pancakes gave up their lives, but happy that they did so for the noble flyin breakfast! :D

I had cinnamon almond pancakes for dinner last night.

He was reading Maxim magazine, and watching Skinemax.

I think it's hilarious personally, I just don't eat pancakes. :)

Yep. And Wabbado is on all three. :D

See ya Thursday...I'm glad you're spending the night. Maybe we can run over to Barb's and I'll show you her cows and her cabin in the woods next to her hangar.

Welcome aboard - I'm at OJC also.

I belong to all three boards - doesn't make me smarter or better (I wish), but they each have their own personality. It doesn't take long to figure it out. Some boards take longer than others for threads to end with "NAZI!!"

Once in a while some of us locals from OJC, IXD, LXT, and K34 get together for lunch or dinner and to swap lies. We'll try to keep you posted.

Matt

Satan tempted you with his spices and you rejected the purity of fried dough and maple goodness!! No go to the nearest IHOP and sin no more! :D

For a Rooty Tooty Fresh & Fruity? :D

I was bored with the plain ones. Could have been worse. Could have been mint flavored!

Nothing wrong with mint. AS long as it is fresh and pure. I made some nice chicken breasts (or am I supposed to say chicken boobies to not run a-fowl of the RoC?) last week with a dijon and mint sauce that was very tasty.
