For Sale: 1978 C172N (180 hp)

Afraid I can't put this off any longer. I must put my late father's beautiful 172N on the market. He owned it since 1988 and doted on it lovingly. With 180-hp, Power-flow, gap seals and exhaust stack fairing it's a speedy 172. Lots of family memories in this airplane.

That was my dad's sense of humor. At one time there was also a "No Screaming" placard on the panel.

I flew that airplane a lot when we all lived in southern California and I didn't have an airplane of my own. There were a lot of father-son trips with our boys (who are now both in their 30's). I took my younger boy to a father-son retreat at Hume Lake CA, and Pres. Reagan's son Michael and his son came along with us on that trip in the airplane (photo below).

After my parents moved to Oregon and I moved to Washington I still liked to fly this airplane whenever we got together.

When my grandmother could no longer live alone my wife and I had to transport her (and her cat) from her home of 50 years in LA to live with my uncle in Oregon. We couldn't do it by car, and she would not have been able to climb into my Grumman Cheetah, so we borrowed the 172 for the difficult and emotional journey.

My mother had health problems that prevented her from taking long car trips, but the 172 was comfortable for her, and it was a blessing for her and my dad in her later years. After she died in 1995, the airplane and his airport pals became the focus of my dad's life, and he flew it all over the western states.

I have another airplane and I've made the decision to fly under sport pilot rules, so I can't keep the 172. I just hope it gets a good home. It's earned it.

Hume Lake, eh? My grandfather was one of the founders and had a great cabin on the hill overlooking the camp. He made many of the signs around the camp, as well. I haven't been there in years.
