a) how do you erase 100 emails at one time? Do I really have to select each one then trashcan them one at a time?

b) what settings result in a longer battery life, its only lasting a couple hours right now. Or is that the max one might expect?

c) mine connects fine at home (2wire), but at work it is having a hard time finding or locking onto the signal (whereas the laptop is immediate) even when battery is up.

Turn off Wifi and Bluetooth when not using them. (Settings)

At the top-right corner of the screen, when looking at your Inbox, there is an Edit button. Tap that, then you tap the emails you want to erase, then tap the Delete button at the bottom.

Go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, and Calendars -> Fetch New Data. If it's set to every 15 minutes and you're in a place where Wifi is not available, it could run your battery down by searching for a wifi connection to update your mail every 15 minutes. You can set it to 30 minutes or hourly, if you'd like. Also, disabling WiFi when not using it can help extend battery life. Depending on how much I use it in a day, my battery typically lasts from 3 or 4 hours (constant use) to 2 days (little use). I do typically try to charge it overnight, and a lot of times I actually have it connected to my laptop throughout the day so that I can sync the latest podcasts to it before leaving work in the evening.

Is the SSID for your work network hidden? If so, you may need to get your IT administrator involved to help you find and log in to your office's wifi.

Previous tips noted and appreciated;

SSID...I connected the box to the phone line (DSL) and then the wifi to that, a long time ago and its working great with my laptop. However the itouch can't see the internet for some reason. It connects to Linksys, full bars when I am right next to the box but it says cannot connect to the internet. At home, the itouch connects fine.

You have to enter the WiFi "network password" for the office, aka WEP or WPA key. You should be able to read that back on a working PC or ask your network admin.

BTW - the iPhone/iPod, being the "SUPER DUPER EASY TO USE" OS that it is - is a giant pain in the ass to add a 2nd email address to.

Who'd have thought "System Settings" is the logical place to go, instead of, you know, the email client

There's my tip to you - logic nothing, do it the Apple way.

Well...I personally think it is intuituive to go to "settings" to change settings on the iPhone, instead of looking for a seperate settings folder in each client/application a la Microsoft.

It is not "system settings", it is "settings." Settings>mail, contacts, calendars>accounts. Easy peasy :dunno:

So yes, it is the Apple Way

What screws it up is third party applications with their own settings screens. Now there is no consistency.

OK - how do you set up the first account? It ain't through settings...

Nope, there is no password - I am the 'network admin' at my work.

Still can't access it.
:(

Nope. Nekkid. Any encryption is a problem for some of my computers. Can't do it.
But we are getting away from my problem.
The itouch thing won't get touchy feely with the internet...only at work...where the other computers have no problem. Tips welcome!

Dave, what kind of router at work? Are your home and work routers un-configured enough to allow you to swap them without causing problems? I know that my iPhone really doesn't like Actiontec routers - It occasionally works, but more often than not it doesn't. Anyway, if you could swap routers, you could see if the problem follows the router. (Make sure it actually works using a computer, too!)

What's the freq and protocol of your home wireless? Is it just 5 GHz
or is it 2.4 GHz? Is it 802.11n or 802.11b/g? I believe the iPod Touch is
just 2.4 GHz and 802.11b/g

I haven't gotten it to connect to my home wireless, but I'm pretty sure
it's because I'm running my airport extreme at just 5 GHz (in order to
avoid my cordless phone from trashing my connections)

Blah blah blah blah, whatever.

New topic. Apple: Best products ever? Or greatest products ever? Discuss.
