Ok, I get it. Nobody wants to hear about my book or my intentions. I shall gracefully bow out of this message board. Good luck and I hope future conversations will be less controversial.

Since you already decided, I don't know why you posted a poll. Nonetheless, I want to be supportive and endorse your decision, so I voted yes.

David,

We all have other things we do. We may or may not mention them here.

But if you want to participate, it has to be about flying -- even a book about flying is a second-tier discussion topic that may or may not be interesting to baord members.

I've posted about horses and my son joining the Army. I'm sure most POA members thought, "So what?" and that is more than fine! It's really not that interesting, because it's not about flying.

But a poll and a "I'm taking my ball and going home" post doesn't really help matters, my man.

Amen.
Y'all sure don't want to hear about trains any more than I want to yammer on about them, it's just a job, and I really just use them to pay the rent. I have a life other than aviation. So do many others. This is a great place, with great people, here their lives center on aviation. Yours does too. I think people here want to move on from this topic, just as some people would like to move on from decisions about whether or not to take a 90 day enforcement action or go to the Supreme court. If you decide to leave, we all lose. You won't be the first to take his ball and leave, nor the last. We will miss your participation, for a while.
That said, I won't vote in your poll. It's pointless.Stay, enjoy typing about flying. Go, enjoy flying somewhere else. If you leave, I sincerely hope you find a more receptive audience.

As far as I can recall, all people asked you to do was to abide by the rules (those things you agreed to when you registered here) and not shill your book in the wrong forum (ie: Keep it in Classified).

Having a temper tantrum over it and acting like you've been somehow wronged isn't likely to win you many readers.

Hey, I am just having fun stirring up the pot. It’s funny to see all the posts and the new Poll’s that are appearing. I think I finally struck a cord. BTW if I leave I am taking BOTH my balls…..

Then you should read that link I posted about the rules - specifically as they pertain to trolling - ie - deliberately stirring the pot.

Don't Trolls live under bridges?

We all (or mostly) enjoy hearing different viewpoints and reading about the cool things our pals are doing. You could certainly have a positive effect on the community. However, you will not do so with continued and somewhat shrill references to your one particular artistic venture. I've posted up a number of my artistic projects from time to time, but I try not to go on about it. If I do I certainly hope someone lets me know. No one likes a bore.

When I was a young fellow trying to earn a living as an artist it was a good idea to show your paintings if you wanted to sell them. It was also thought to be in bad form to go around blowing your own horn about what a great painting you have recently done or what a great artist you consider yourself to be. Those decisions were normally left to the viewer to make.

It was wise to mention your book about flying on a flying forum, that was a good idea. You, however, took it a little too far with your over exuberant self promotion.

You are probably a nice fellow to meet and fling the bull with, much like what most of us do on this forum. If all you talked about during some real hanger flying was your wonderful book, you would soon discover yourself standing alone in the hanger.

If you then started following everyone around asking if they liked you or not, you might find very few invitations to future hanger bull sessions.

To sum it up, your trying too hard, way too hard.

John

Re: No, No, No....who wants ME to go away?

Mentioning your book on a flying forum made sense. Blowing your own horn constantly did not.

If this was a real hanger and this was some real hanger flying going on, and all you wanted to talk about was your wonderful book and what a great author you consider yourself to be, I think you would discover few, or perhaps no invitations to future bull sessions heading your way.

If you then got on the phone and started calling all the hanger pilots and asked them if they liked you or not, you would be more than a little disappointed with the results.

I'll bet you are actually a nice fellow to meet and bull**** with, if you could only get past your F***ing book.

Books are sold mainly by people who have read them, it's called word of mouth advertising. They are also sold by book publishers providing the book was good enough for them to want to invest in printing, distributing, and promoting them.

If you could not find a publisher who would do the above things with his money, I can understand you wanting to unload your garage full of self published books. Your like an artist who can't find a gallery that will show his work, so he stands on the street corner with his paintings, hoping to sell a few.

John
