Birthday fly-in/cook out at the farm

The CJ looks like it is playing hide and go seek in the corn. Or maybe it is a new movie "CJ's of the Corn":D
That's funny, Dean. :D

Here is another one for you. :D

Did you tell me they've planted corn in your field this year?

So are all the tie down spots taken - or do we need to bring our own.

Yep. :) That's why I posted that video of what it looks like taking off and landing in the corn. I love it when they plant corn around the runways.

:D You might bring your own. :D We have one spot on the grass ramp that had stakes in concrete in the grass, but it's already spoken for. But, during the party, we'll be flying in and out all day. Hopefully other people will help give rides, too. Tom's students and their families are coming, and they like to get rides, too.

Well, I'm not coming unless I can bring something. Feeding an army of pilots is a HUGE job and I think we should all pitch in...when it gets closer to the date, I think you should give us assignments. :)

I will bring a bucket of chicken from the Colonel.

You have a good point. :D Last year we did pot luck, so we'll do pot luck again this year, with Tom cooking hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill.

Kim, last year you had some kind of air show at Wichita that weekend. Are they having it again?

Sounds good! :D

I talked to my friend Bill, who came last year. He said he'll bring his hot air balloon again this year, and will sell rides if anyone wants a ride. He's giving a reduced rate for me, and we will need a chase crew. Last year the winds didn't die down good enough for a launch. It was pretty watching it from the air as he was trying to get the balloon up on our N/S runway.

If I'm in the Archer I'll bring a $20 and ask to borrow the truck... If the Aztec, what do you need???? Diana, knowing it's your birthday, I'm going to ask this. Can we bring people you don't know??? I think you take the oppinion that stranges are just friends you haven't met yet.... specially when they are pilots. We've been having such fun remoniscing about Gastons that some of our friends want to go to whatever the next fly-in is... :D

Tell Bill not to worry about having enough hot air for his balloon. I think you have enough of it coming to the party to float that sumbitch for at least a week.

If I'm coming, it'll be in the Aztec meaning that we can bring enough birthday cake to feed a large army. Just tell us what to bring. :)

:) Cake....yummmmmm. :D Would it be chocolate? :D

Let's see...bring a chair if you have room, something for the meal (cake is good!), BYOB, and a smile. :D That should do it.

Wayne, you have a point. :D Oh, and does that mean you're comin' too?

I can't dig back far enough to know when it is. Can we rent an air-conditioned tent?

Saturday, August 22. People are welcome to come on Friday and stay till Sunday. Those that are still here on Monday might get put to work. :D

Can we rent an air-conditioned tent?
Sure! :D The hangar apartment is air conditioned with a little window unit, but it doesn't stay too cool with all the traffic in and out.

Is there a website anywhere that shows the date for record high temps in Lamar for the past 20 years?

I should have the portable ice-chest A/C unit by then, maybe I can run it off the tractor battery and sit in the shade.

PS: Autopilot install successfully completed, 696 hanging on window. "Center, Skywagon 48T requesting immediate rock and roll."

For Aug 22nd ... 88°F for the average high

That's not so bad....88 is tolerable. It wasn't too hot last year, I don't think...but then I'm almost a year older, so I can't really remember. :D

Sounds good, Wayne! You might even attract a few new friends with that fancy set-up. :D

:D You're good to go!

I'll let you know as we get closer. If I come, it'll be the paved airport in town for me w/the Commander. Just like last time....

It would be good to see you again. I hope you can swing it. :)

Well, we've booked the 210 for the day, but the weather will really need to work out for us. I can't take off work on Friday, and Leslie needs to catch a flight out of ORD on Sunday.

Uhhh...don't forget to factor in humidity...very high likihood of it FEELING like the 104...:yikes::D

I'm taking the next few months...if not the rest of the year...off...

so, it looks like I'll be there! I may even talk Chris into coming with this time.

I hope everything is alright. You OK?

Cool! I'm so glad you're coming! And I'm looking forward to meeting Chris. :)

It was nice of you to help give rides last year. I'm hoping that those who fly in will help give rides to people. Some of Tom's students have never been to a fly-in before and have not had the chance to ride in any other airplanes, so I'm hoping that they or their family members might get a chance to ride in other airplanes.

Because the corn is so high, we might need someone to help man the radio for traffic here.

I will talk to Grandpa! I am actually free that weekend, might make the short hop over!

Best,

Best,
That would be great, Rudy! I hope you guys will make it over. :) I was going through some old photos the other day and came across pictures from the day that you flew in here with your brother.

BTW, there will be folks here from Pittsburg that Jim knows.

p.s. Maybe you can work on a good forecast for us that day. :D

Yay! I hope you can make it! I'll keep my fingers crossed for good weather for your flight. :)
Leslie and I were talking, and we don't think that we're going to do the 6 hour flight. :frown3: We want to be able to spend more time with you! We'll be thinking of you, though!:cheerswine:

Are Brian and Brent coming?

Are Brian and Brent coming?
I'd love to have Brent join us, but he may be starting school about then. Are you coming up? It might be a lot cooler by then. ;)

Kim has the guest room, but I have a Super 8 room reserved for you.

Sounds like I have some serious negotiating to do.

Well, dangit. But, I understand. Sorry you can't join us this year. It was a lot of fun having you here last year.
And we enjoyed it! (BTW, we received word that the 210 we had booked isn't expected to be out of maintenance by then anyways.)

You're right. It would be more like begging. Which probably has the same chance of success, and Slim left town. But you never know, I may come up with some new material between now and then. "Is it hot in here, or is it just you"? might still work in the country. I'll start rehearsing.

Good luck! :D

Anybody going from the Northern Illinois/Wisconsin area that has an empty seat? That wants to stop by Dubuque? That wants to drop me off in NE Missouri on the way back?

I have my thumb out and the 195 probably won't be available that weekend.
