FS: The Tron Guy's airplane

Hopefully trading into something else nice. I have always really liked your paint job, and the avionics...wow.

Good lord, there are days I really wish I had saved more as a kid! Sorry to hear you're selling it, Jay, but I hope the sale goes well. I'll spread the word around the FBO here.

What are you gonna fly now?
Unless I get astonishingly lucky, nothing. :cryin:

I wish I were...but that doesn't look too likely. If I didn't have to sell the airplane because of the economy, I wouldn't. I bought it fully intending to keep it the rest of my flying career. That's why it's got the avionics it does.

Thanks. You're not half as sorry to hear I'm selling it as I am...

Sorry to see ya sell Jay. FWIW ya might want to consider taking out the NTSB/FAA discussion in your Ebay listing.

I considered that, but I'm going to get asked about it anyway, so I thought it'd be better to address it right up front. It was all over the news, after all, and I get queries about it regularly.

Dang, Jay. That hurts. Sorry you have to do that. Wish it fit my needs, but you know both Leslie and me, and it just doesn't have the useful load we need. And you know that you aren't going to get anywhere near what it's worth, considering the general market and the specific issues with Zodiacs right now.

Yeah. 470 pounds would be a bit light for the two of you.

There's one factor there that nobody I've spoken to knows how to crank in, though: What's the Tron Guy's airplane, painted up in matching colors, worth? I'm hoping that the story of the airplane being for sale gets some part fo the news/web coverage the original purchase got, and then we'll see.

That's a good point, and I really hope it works out for you. Hey, maybe Jay Leno would be interested?:D

That makes me sad Jay! :( That was the most COMFORTABLE plane I had ever been in!!
Also, I thought the plane was blue? The description on Ebay says its green.

It is green with some blue on it.

A most unwelcome sign of the times. I hope you get out of it with a whole spandex suit, Jay.

Yeesh, that sucks Jay. I hope you get a decent price for it considering all the buzz around the Zodiacs. I've seen several pretty heavily discounted lately. :(

I've posted it to my Facebook, hope that gets some responses. That said, Jay, I'm very sorry to see you have to sell your plane, especially so soon after you bought it. The good news is that these things do sometimes come back to you. I have a friend who now owns the Travel Air his father used to own. His father sold it and he managed to buy it back some years later when it came up for sale again. Perhaps one day it will make its way back to you.

I'm glad you were able to make it to Gaston's this year and 6Y9 last year. Hopefully you'll still be able to make it to these hitching a ride with someone else. :)

Taking Ted's lead I posted it on my facebook too. Not sure it will help but the more it is out the the better.
It was nice to geat you at Gaston's glad you made it. Sorry that you have to sell. I hope you the best with your sale.

Well, that's one way to help hide your identity online! Pick a girl name when you're a guy!

Nope. For more fun pick gender neutral.

Tracy, ... Dana, Leslie(!), ...(damn my old brain is broken)

Bummer, sorry to hear it Jay, may the internet gods of geekdom shine on you and get you enough to buy anther one LOL!

Or, better yet, get enough response that he doesn't have to sell this one.

Maybe if he gets a good paying spot out of it. Otherwise, the "Collector Market" while seriously diminished from 3 years ago, most certainly still exists, and it's the bottom end players that disappeared. The top end guys are still there. The best thing would be that there's a billionaire geek off and he gets $1MM for it.

What's a Spock Spork worth today?

Reserve Not Met.

Well Jay, I hope that means that things will work out for you to keep it.

It should go up on Barnstormers and/or TAP and/or etc... without all the Tron Guy nonsense. Seriously, many people will be put off by such shenanigans; I think that those most interested in Jay's plane (older IFR-rated pilots in fear of medical issues) are least likely to be plugged into popular culture. The first time I myself ever heard of the Tron Guy was from Jay himself. From everything I've seen it appears to be a fine aircraft and should sell itself.

Jay will figure out a way to keep it..I'm sure.
It'll take a near miracle for that to happen, unfortunately.

I approached the eBay auction as I did (including all of the publicity) because there have been several eBay auctions for stuff related to Internet celebrities that went for large sums of money. Nobody could tell me if, or how much, it being the Tron Guy's airplane would change the value. The auction was the best way I could think of to get that answer.

It's going up on Barnstormers soon, and the Tron Guy stuff won't be emphasized.

As for being "nonsense", all I can say is that that's your opinion; many others don't share it.
