Ames, IA November 29, 2008

Felix, give Scott Migaldi a ring, he may be able to help you there. I could probably help you on the return leg, depending on when you flight home is. I'm not sure when Scott's planning on coming, but he was only going to come for the day.

Looking forward to seeing everyone! Flying out in the Mooney on Friday.

EDIT: Ooh, 1,700 posts... well I suppose that's not too round of a number.

Is anyone flying from the Chicago area and leaving around noon on Saturday? I'm still trying to avoid driving across - if I do so, I'll be there around 4pm. Hope that's not too late!

-Felix
I was gonna leave about 9:30 or 10am if you can leave early you can fly with me. My plan was also to return in the early evening, probably leaving Ames around 5pm.

Wish I could, but my flight doesn't get there until noon. We could do a plane swap at ORD very quickly though ;)

ill be there friday afternoon. planning to do some planning, visit with the early folks, and probably bake cookies, yum!

Wish I was able to come, Tony... I'll just have to send you a "Happy Graduation" message this way! Congrats, man!

I'm going to have to NOT come. Both daughters are here for a very short window....

So how's the party going? MUST BE GOOD--there's nobody in Chat except me and Mike.

If the party is still underway come Monday, I might be able to catch the end. Currently in Cozumel and heading home tomorrow.

Party is still going on, and a great time. What else would you expect with this group?

Time to get back to the party.

Looks like the party will last at least through this evening for anyone living East of Ames. FIP/CIP looks a little sporty.

I'm really, really glad I drove.

Yeah, so who wants to loan me their FIKI equipment for the Mooney? :)

Looks like I'm flying home tomorrow... hopefully.

Piece of cake, two hair driers in the wings that run off of 12Vdc and a spray bottle of vodka. You can spray the wings in flight with the vodka or if the ice gets a little too think you can take a drink! ;) ;)

Have a nice flight home on Monday!

If you still cannot make it all the way home on Monday stop by Chicago and meet the gang there with our visitors Peggy and Felix for dinner.

If anyone needs to get home in a hurry, I have an idea. I can grab the 02 bottle out of my glider and pipe it up to the wings of the 140. Whenever ice starts to accumulate, a quick turn of the o2 valve will bloat the wings and pop off the ice. No such thing as run-back if the whole wing is popping. ;)

How much does the aluminum leading edge flex?

Otherwise, that isn't a half bad idea.

Wonder how it would work in practice.

matt's got a pure 140, fabric wings. still a funny idea.

Yes! We didn't do nearly enough airplane oogling yesterday (other than over Tony's 421). Today will offer ample opportunity for that.

Present PIREP: We are all sitting in the Grand Stay talking about the weather, basically as follows:

fine we'll eat BBQ, you can still drive in the snow.

turn east out of the hotel, then turn north on Duff, its just a little ways up on the right.

I'm really, really glad I drove.
We got as far as Clear Lake before deciding that the roads were too bad, and the other idiots on the roads too idiotic, to continue. We're in a little motel, and we'll try again tomorrow morning.

Scott, you see the forecast? We have a winter storm warning valid until Monday at Noon.

Yep I see ti, only got a little snow now. But I did go out and make sure the snow blower would start up just in case. Depending on the snow I may work form home and then head into Chicago on the train for the dinner with Peggy and Felix.

Jay, glad that you made it safely and found a good stopping place.

We're still all here. Jesse's playing X-Plane, Kent's checking out PoA, I'm checking out PoA etc...

We MAY get out tomorrow. Scott, I might ask to crash on your couch, if I can get from here to there. We'll see what happens.

glad you guys are having fun. i made huge progress on my glide polar testing tonight...

You should come over and play X-plane with us. We also just finished watching Top Gear on lorry drivers. Kent said it was exactly like his former job, especially driving through the brick walls.
