iAM in AK!
I just spent a little time over on eBay, browsing for parts for the 310. (Actually found a few) But I'm still looking for another KX-155A to replace the KY-196 and the KN-53 still in my panel (already replaced 1 set of those with a KX-155A, found it on Ebay, new for $1050!!!)

But what really amazed me were the total number of aircraft for sale there right now! Everything from Cherokee's and C150's, to CJ-1 and CJ-2's!

Some very nice taildraggers, nice cruisers, and quite a few twins as well. About the only category which wasn't represented was fully aerobatic aircraft.

It has to make me wonder what the future holds for GA... But again, most of these aircraft were older ones. I think the newest I saw was a 2000 C172 SP. But all in all, I thought some of the prices for a few of these planes were pretty attractive.

The other thing I noticed which was new to me was 'buy it now' block time for various aircraft in different parts of the country. Some were truly selling block time, while others were selling flight instruction. I must give them credit- it is an imaginative way to get customers!

With the economy tanking and no end in site, "toys" are being disposed of at bargin basement prices.

Some pilots have adjustable rate mortgages, too.

Some pilots used home equity to buy the toy.

(He says. After thinking just today that the plane is the last resort escape valve.)

Man, alive!

You see another deal like that, clue me in, OK?

Sure, Spike! I'll alert you to the 2nd one I find... :D The next one is still mine! :nono:

I think I just got really lucky... Obviously, nobody was perusing eBay that hard that week. It was not under avionics or radios. I found it in a totally non-aircraft related category. But I keep hoping I'll find another one at a decent price...

Buy it Now price: 3,500,000.00

and right below

Get low monthly payments

How about... "Get real!" Or, "You gotta be kidding me?"

I'm still puzzled by the steep price. Is there some hidden value to this gizmo? After all, it is a bit overdue for an annual.

Not for that kind of money. It is rare, and one of the few Flying Cars with a certification, but I don't see $3.5MM, no way, especially not in todays economy. Maybe $350,000.00

It's cute, Tristan! See if you can convince moneybags Mark to buy it for you. ;)

Add in $30k for an overhaul, and it's at high market value; older radios, etc.

Of course, the engine could be good for another 300 hours or more... but you have to price it as a run-out.

It could be a great value for, say, an A&P with time and sweat-equity to put into a premium quality field overhaul. I hear Washington state is a great place for such people... (grin)

Buy a good used 0-520 from a salvage yard and up grade.

So, did you click to bid on it yet? :)

Their a beautiful airplane but no Fairchild.

But if some one wanted some cheap flying ? That aircraft fits the bill. but he can't even get a bid on at $20k.

House rules say I can have 1 aircraft at a time.

Thats how the used airplane market is, I know of a twin beech95...if the owner GAVE it to me I would take a loss trying to get it flying. Unless I parted it out on ebay.
A 150 next door needs a mechanically inclined owner, its in pieces and has been hacked on by non M-I but well meaning people. Same deal, owner looks at TAP and thinks its worth 16K, if he GAVE it to me I would probably take a loss with paint, repairs, O/H etc. He is in for a sad surprise.

Kinda shows you what the market for aircraft is today.

cost of every thing is up, pilots starts are way down. people are not spending money on any thing they don't positively have to.

so the Toys go first. If you think the aircraft market is bad look at the boat market, RV market, I have been watching the Monaco M/H market, M/Hs that were selling for 80-90 k last year are not selling when the min bid is 30K or more.

look at the slip fees for this:

and know why it is for sale. The toys gotta go.

Well, that's a blistered to death Bendy-Toy, he couldn't give it away last year either.

The condition of the boat wasn't the issue.

The $600. plus dock fees were.

Anything that is sucking the budget dry, is going up for sale.

You can always moor a boat at anchor for free. You need a tender or access to a water taxi, but there plenty of free moorage left. It just isn't convenient.

You just don't get it do you? It takes money to keep and operate any toy, and folks are not spending money they don't need to. So the toys are for sale.

I'm really not seeing an increased volume, and I'm in the toy business is what I'm saying. The only difference I'm seeing in the market is the prices have dropped on the high upkeep toys. As for as units on the market, not that different, maybe up a touch, but pretty much mostly repos on way upside down stuff that isn't being sold cheap (or really at all). Your area may be seeing it more, but I'm also seeing people taking advantage of the market.

One of the airplanes I follow closely typically has ~50 units listed for sale. Last week there were more than 150. The researchers who call owners frequently are reporting a dearth of potential buyers.

I'm assuming that you missed the article in T-A-P

find a T-A-P from 2 years ago, and compare the thickness to one from last week.

I'm assuming you're talking King Airs, King Airs aren't toys, King Airs are business machines often used by real estate guys. They are most definitely cutting back on things that have a heavy etch into the bottom line.

They are personal transportation for people who can afford them, as are many airplanes. A much higher percentage of airplanes are now for personal use than in the past, largely due to the provisions of JCA 2004. Five of the last six airplanes we have worked have been personal use only, which is fairly consistent over the past three years. Obviously they aren't Fairchild 24's but Bonanzas and Cirri aren't either. Prices for all segments are down significantly.

The Comanche is the bargain of the century. $50k for a pristine 180 Comanche. I'll deliver for gas. :)
