I've registered for a convention at Hyatt Regency Center on Lakeshore Drive in Chicago 11/29 to 12/5 and scheduled for seminars until 6:00 every day. Wondered if I could meet up with anyone during my stay. I do not yet have travel or hotel reservations.

Edit: Fixed start date: 11/29, not 11/20.

Hyatt Regency "Center?" Hyatt Regency Chicago on Wacker?

We'll have to meet you for dinner.

Sounds like the normal PoA visiting squad!

Ok I am put out a vote for 'Heaven on 7' or will the new Trader Vics be opened?

I would really love to go to Everest but dropping 2 bills each on dinner is probably not a good idea in the current financial situation.

The way to economy is going Everest might have a dollar menu pretty soon.

Wonderful!

No discussion, yet, on my expenses. Probably can spend a little more than at McDonalds.

The address I've been given for the convention:
Hyatt Regency McCormick Place Conference Center
McCormick Place Complex
located 1/2 mile south of Roosevelt Rd. on Lakeshore Drive

From the tiny ("not to scale") map they included, looks like it is close (?) to Midway.

Okeee. Hyatt McCormick place. We'll take ya downtown or to River North.

It's MUCH closer to the former Meigs. As in walking distance!

Heaven on Seven sounds good. The original, of course!

Nothing personal, but why would any pilot schedule a seminar in Chicago, the single most GA-unfriendly city in America?

I won't return to the Windy City until Daley is dead, out of office, or both, and I've made sure that no one in my company does, either. It's a small gesture, I know -- but it's the only power we've got against the King.

Well, I don't think she scheduled the seminar there; she's attending a seminar that was scheduled there by other people. And sometimes you've got to go.

Now the real question is why the 99's scheduled their international conference there next year.:dunno:

The original Heaven on Seven on Wabash isn't open evenings AFAIK. The one on Ontario is.

I expected this question. I'm going to a Radiologists convention. Probably a few of them are pilots, too. It's always in Chicago.

The 99s is another matter. Not my call.

The radiologist convention were the heaviest users of Meigs. They should have moved somewhere else.

I have been booked to Westin Michigan Avenue Hotel during the convention.

Arrive 9:07 am Sat 11/29/08 ORD on United 5966.
I will be attending a dinner Sun 11/30/08. (added)
I will be attending a dinner Tue 12/2/08.
I will be attending Blue Man Group Thu 12/4/08.
Leave 4:04 pm Fri 12/5/08 ORD on United 6274.

Looks like the meetings are from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm.
Is this still do-able?

So Mon or Wed eve should work for us. We're getting back from FL on Sunday night.

Both of those days will work for me too. I am very likely taking the train into downtown and will arrive at the Ogilive Station. Where are you staying at Peggy?

I might be available on Wednesday night. Heaven on 7?

I'll be in Chicago, too. Leaving on Tuesday, though.

Any chance we can make it Monday?

Grant, Leslie, Peggy and I can make it Monday so that we can include you. I do like the idea of Heaven on 7, but we cannot go the Wabash location for dinner so we would have to use the Ohio and Rush St location which is open for dinner.

Monday Bob cannot come, but what about Mike, RevSlappy, any other Chicago based pilots?

OK. Monday. What time?

Looks like Heaven on Seven is about 1/2 mile from my hotel - about a 15 minute walk for me.

I can make it. I'll likely drive so I could take you two.

Hmmmmmm....if we won't be too late I could take the train, too. I just have a deep fear of missing the rare last train home and I have to hie to Union Station. I expect a cab ride could cost $200 or more. :yikes:

The NW line has trains to much later than I expect us to be out. There is a bus from work to the Palatine station so it is an easy train commute for me.

If I *had* to go to Chicago, I'd stay in Skokie and bring a sack lunch.

Well, in this case, you *have* to go. Which airport will you be flying to? I'll pick you up.
Heck, if he flies to Schaumburg (06C) or Palwaukee (KPWK), Scott and I can pick him up!

Oh, and Leslie just reminded me that she's not available on Wednesday, since she's heading out of town again. So it's good we're doing it Monday! :)

For Monday we have Peggy, Scott, Mike, Felix, Grant, Leslie, ???

Well, this is just so exciting! Great opportunity to meet all you midwesterners! Looking forward to spending time with a great bunch of pilots.

Oh, and just in case you arrive looking for Margaret O'Brien, I'm short, obese, and will be wearing a brown wool beret.

Hmmm, that's me, except for the beret! :) I'll call for a reservation in the name of "Pilot." (They'll probably think I mean Pontius Pilate!)

Grant, I'm probably going to bring an old college friend of mine (whom I've been trying to convince to start his private). Maybe it would be a good idea to make the reservation for a couple of extra people.

Wilco, and looking forward to meeting him!
