Ames, IA November 29, 2008

I'd like to intrude into this thread about our annual Holloween party. Some of our POA pals happened to be in Ames in years past and attended our event and I believe had at least an interesting time. This year it's on Oct 31, Fri night starting at 8. I can make available some heated indoor "camping" places available for any pilots who manage to make the journey from wherever to here. I will leave it to Tony to flesh out this invitation and simply say I'd be thrilled to see any of you here!

Tony, I haven't gotten a hotel room yet. Don't know about the passengers I was going to pick up en route, but I'd bet not. Probably a good idea to get a good block of rooms reserved that we can then call and put down our credit card numbers.

Other question is did people want to share rooms or get their own? I'm indifferent on the matter, but I suppose figure one room for me, and then if someone wants to room with me then I'm fine with that.

Most likely a Seneca. We've got a few lines and have been through a couple of inspections. There is some real junk out there and the process is taking longer than we'd hoped.

We tried to justify a 414 or a 421, but the number of times we need the capacity just weren't there. We've been chartering hours on a 414, cheyenne III, and a C90 as needed and that will continue as necessary. I do love flying in the cheyenne, but the dollars get crazy in a hurry.

What I'm struggling with most is that while I'm thrilled that the company is willing to get into this position and it is so gratifying to be the pilot - it is much easier(and safer, I think) to ride in the back.

Jim, with your sized family and a corporate load, be certain to choose an Earlier Seneca II. I've seen 'em with as much a 1700 lbs useful load....6 hours' fuel at 21g/hr or 126 gallons=756 pounds, leaving 950 for the cabin.

Great pic of Steve!

Jason, on the other hand, doesn't look so happy.

I was just mad that my costume wasn't as good as Steve's. He was getting all of the attention from the girl with the big red lips...

Well It takes someone like Steve to pull of the Great Pumpkin costume :)

Nov schedules SHOULD be out in the next three or four days...I'll let you know then, but I'm certainly hoping to be there! Think I could sleep on the sofa at Hap's like I did when I worked there?? :)

Assuming your lovely bride is coming with you, what're her thoughts on this matter? :goofy:

If she does come, she'll probably just stop by the airport to say "hi" then have her friends pick her up so she can go anywhere that's NOT an airport! She's pretty well aware that if I go to a fly-in, I'm just about dead to her for a couple days.:arf:

I'm going to book some vacation time to pull it off. I'll just need a pre-heat.

got a tanis? we can run an extension cord.

otherwise I *think* we've got a red dragon type thing...

either way ill make sure your airplane is taken care of

Mine too, we pre-heat the Mooney when it gets chilly out. I've got a Tanis and will bring my own extension cord. :)

I'm still in. Ted, I haven't decided upon airplanes yet but I am keeping your offer in mind. No hotel room yet.

Tony, any thoughts on the timing of events?

Sounds good! As you know I don't need any significant advance notice. :)

Yeah, I was planning on coming out Friday, so I expect a full range of events on Saturday! ;)

If I get back from Alabama in time (planning a late Friday/early Saturday arrival back in Ames), we could probably get a group of interested folks over to Boone (~10-15min drive west of AMW) to see the multiple RV's in different stages of production.

Just another option. It all depends on what Tony has in mind. :)

i dont have anything planned really. im open to ideas. i do plan on getting some food and beer at the hangar in the afternoon sometime and probably continuing into the evening. mostly just a chance to visit and have fun.

All sounds plenty fine to me!

Well, the [!@$#!#$^] ever so lovely and talented folks down in scheduling decided to put two reserve days on my schedule...the 28th and 29th. I'm off the 27th and 30th, though - go figure. So. I'll have to see if I can sweet talk someone in the Kremlin into changing my reserve days. If not, it's a no go for me. Hopefully everyone else has a great time, though!

WX permitting, looks like I can go. This is just a day trip for me, so no hotel needed.

What should I bring (in terms of food or drink?)

whatever you would like. Im planning on getting some food and drinks, and will probably bake cookies too. see you then!

Looks like I won't be able to make it after all. My family and I are making a trip to Mexico to do some diving over the holiday weekend. Have fun at the party, wish I could be there too.

have fun staying warm!

I'm booking it.

We, will of course, have 8 continuous days of ice to keep us grounded. :raspberry:

If there is a howling west wind that day, I will make it. I need about 40 knots on the tail to be recallable to Peoria on 1 hour's notice.....

ok, but hopefully only aloft

Okay, Leslie and I won't be able to make it after all. We've opted to head South for T-Day, down to FL. We'll be thinking of you guys! (For a couple of minutes, at least!:p)

Yeah, you'll be thinking of how we all have to pre-heat our airplanes prior to take-off and how glad you are that you don't have to! :D

Sorry not to see you and Leslie this time around, but have a fun trip to FL! :)

Yeah, but we're probably going to try to save a couple AMU (kilobucks) by going in the mailing tubes. :raspberry:

:no::no: Don't do it! Fly GA!!

+1. The means of getting to your destination is as much part of the vacation as the destination with GA! With mailing tubes it's just... eww.

Well, I guess I shouldn't say that since I'll be flying the buses, too.

When I looked at prices on Tuesday, it seemed pretty reasonable to DSM. Now, it's gotten a lot more expensive. The best flight gets there on the 29th and leaves at 7pm Monday morning. Don't really know what to do until 7pm. Hmmmm :(

Not sure where you are in SoCal, but can you get to Vegas easily at all? Allegiant flies non-stop from LAS to DSM daily. You could come in on the 28th around noonish and return about the same time on Sunday or Monday for $191 round-trip.
