Plavix and Class 3 (re: carotid artery stenosis)

Relative to my previous posts here on asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis:

I have a Class 3 medical certificate, valid for another 9 months or so, as well as recently-acquired Basic Med. I have an incidentally-discovered neck radiation-associated carotid artery stenosis that is asymptomatic (no "neurological events"). I elected to treat it operatively and underwent stenting of that stenosis (TCAR). The operation was uneventful and I was discharged the next morning without postoperative restrictions. Postoperatively, I was prescribed aspirin and plavix for the next three months.

Relative to my Class 3, which I assume can't be revoked if Basic Med is to remain valid, what's the FAA's guidance on plavix? If I'm taking that anti-platelet drug prophylactically for the stent, is this something I need to run by my AME?

it’s not the plavix. It’s the carotid stent which is a bellweather for Coronary disease.

Your AME is obliged to tell you that you need the full stress treadmill, lipids, glucose and Cardiology office visit by virtue of having the bellweather ADJACENT atherosclerotic artery disease.

Personally were it I, I would give up PIC privileges if I didn’t have a negative stress treadmill. And you AME of record will likely fell obliged to repot same to the FAA, resulting in the demand for same.

….and if you fail….there goes Basic Med……

Thanks, did all that as part of the workup leading up to surgery and it was all negative, including the stress echo

did you get to 9 minutes and to a max heart rate of >(220-YourAge)?
Yes, 10 mets-no ischemia. A1c was normal, LDL was low (and fluffy). Cardiology/vascular medicine workup was very complete and cleared me for surgery. That was a full day at the Mayo Clinic. The operation was done last week and went fine. I haven't flown since then...airplane is in annual.

Sounds like you're saying the plavix by itself is not an issue. If that's the case, my plan is not to involve my AME, let the Class 3 expire next year and fly on Basic Med.
