In the interest of making Airventure last longer, I wish to get a jumpstart on it by not waiting until Sunday.

I am curious if anyone knows of Saturday events in the area. I am looking for info on Rock the Ramp in Middleton. RTR appears to just be a Friday thing.

I am looking for a Saturday thing in the area. My AirBnb at Osh starts Sunday so going to Osh on Saturday means camping the first night. I'd rather find another pregame event for the 22nd. If there are other events taking place on Saturday that y'all know of, I'd be interested to know.

Found something called the MKE Air and Water Show on Saturday.

But Eman's hangar party sounds fun too.

RTR is Friday night only. And a lot of fun. And organized by people worth supporting.

If you don't find anything more appealing, you're welcome to stay with us Saturday night.

Saturday is the start of the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac. Come to Navy Pier and cheer us on as we do the parade of boats! Then hop in your plane and fly over the start line by at least 500 feet. First start is 10am I think and by evening there will be a Congo line (or is it conga line?) of boats from MKE to Chicago…

BBQ on my deck a few miles from 3MY. I'll even throw in my birthday cake.

Seriously Bryan, if you don't want to camp, the guest room is yours or the basement or whatever. I mean, if you want to camp, you can pitch in my backyard. Osh is then a 90 minute flight on Sunday morning at 150 knots. If I actually get to go this year (for the first time ever this is a possibility) we can fly in formation...or not.

Ditto another bed to crash - my place - and we can both watch @kaiser sail away from air or ground.

For those offering beds, there is a 62% chance I will be traveling with a friend of mine.
If he backs out, I may take one of y'all up on it. If he still plans on joining me, I may prefer to find an event Saturday and crash locally near said event.

I've got a bed for ya scallywags... You'll be put to work for a few days before release. If you survive there’s rum in it for ya…

You know, rum is like $10 bucks at Costco? Can we just skip to that part instead of the wet, cold, and difficult, work bit?

Oh we're talking at least $25 a bottle rum here... and even veuve clicquot if that's your thing

Youse guys seem to like a fairly loose luff on the main... (at least compared to what I'm used to.)

That year (2015) was mostly a light air year. In fact, most of that footage was sped up to faster than real time haha. In light air we hoist loose and then use the Cunningham (device which puts downward pressure on the luff) to adjust mid-race, based on real time conditions. So loosening it powers us up in the super light stuff.

I shouldn’t have laughed at Congo line but I’ve had an Italian beer and this was funnier that listening to the President try to have a coherent speech…or the Veep…

When in doubt, let it out, especially in light air.

We actually have a theory that upwind in mega light air you yoke the main all the way in, open up the slot and make the jib do most of the work.

Interesting, on my little boat in light air we set the leeward job sheet then trim the windward sheet some to pull the clew in and narrow the slot.

That's for ground pounders. It's not even at an airport.

So, I've honestly never gone but it is at the lakeshore in Milwaukee and the Blue Angels will be there. Milwaukee is also big enough and just far enough away from Oshkosh that there should be plenty of lodging available at regular prices. I'd offer up a bed at my place too but you'd have a 2 foot tall roommate that cries a lot.

However, I'd be happy to provide some ground transport, and I know a good FBO... :D

Midwest meetup at MKE! Kent’s shuttling to the beach. Who’s in?
(I still need my MKE stamp).

If we can fly planes, surely we can conn boats. We need a POA boat

I am looking for a Saturday thing in the area.

Washington Island 2P2. Door county Wisconsin. Their fly-in fish boil is usually the Saturday before EAA. Big grass runways that are smooth and good for a Cirrus. The fish-boil is quite a spectacle, drawing big crowds.

Here's an announcement from a previous year:

That's definitely a good one, but while the runways are definitely nice and smooth, they're also pretty short for a Cirrus. Probably irrelevant as I bet Bryan is planning on flying the Comanche which should do much better.

I moved to Wisconsin last summer, live pretty much due east of Oshkosh on the east side of Lake Winnebago. About 35 minutes by car. Closest airport is 8D1 (19 nm east of KOSH). Let me know if you need a ride anywhere. Also welcome to stay here (have room inside), alternatively, you could camp outside if you wanted (rural property).

I had no problem landing a Cirrus at 2P2 for the fish boil.

It was about 10 years ago, so having forgotten the numbers for this particular landing I just now looked them up in the POH. For a 2232' grass runway, wet grass would be bad to be sure, but for dry grass it's hard to contrive a problem provided that you cross the threshold significantly lower than for a 50' obstacle landing. I don't remember for sure, but don't all the runways at Washington Island allow coming in pretty low, as long as you don't stray 100' off to the side?

By the way, there's a small beach not far from the airport. I remember going there after eating fish, and a pilot was throwing tennis balls into the lake for his retriever to fetch. He said that his dog really liked the trip in the back seat of his Piper.

I was looking at takeoff numbers for the SR22 on a hot day, and it came to 2100 feet to get to 50'. Certainly not impossible, but not a lot of margin.

Last time I went to the fish boil, the speed brakes were out of my Mooney so I took the club's 182RG instead... And was very glad I did.

I feel like while most planes the limiting factor is take off distance, having flown the SR22TN I always felt landing distance was a bigger deal. You lose elevator effectiveness early and so it’s all about braking at that point.

I’ve always wanted to hit 2P2 and might do it for Memorial Day since I can’t for Oshkosh.

Jesse -- Don't know if you're aware but there is a fly-in the New Holstein right before Oshkosh.
