Post Something Interesting

People with personalized license plates on their car, on average, are 5% dumber than those that have standard license plates.

Speaking of which, I saw one a few days ago:

BETTYWT
Made me laugh.

Airbus aircraft are NOT metric, all fasteners are US

That’s true, due to cost as much as anything. Whoever came up with the concept of standardized aerospace quality fasteners in 1930s America was doing the right thing.

And along those lines, cars and motorcycles everywhere come with inch sized diameter wheels and tires.

Here's a book I'm reading. Its been out awhile. Some of the info that was sensational when the book came out has been "overcome-by-events". But, it still makes me feel a little queasy.

The moon has seismic characteristics similar to green cheese.

Obviously, the moon is not actually made of cheese, but the seismology experiments showed the moon is similar to cheese.

German chocolate cake is not German. It was 'invented' by Samuel German. Well at least the type of chocolate it used was. But a recipe for the cake first appeared in The Dallas Morning News in 1957 and was called 'German's chocolate cake.' Somewhere along the line the 's got dropped. Now everyone thinks it's from Germany. It's as American as apple pie, with apologies to @Timbeck2. :D

In a related note, Baker's chocolate is not chocolate for bakers necessarily. The guy that 'invented' it was named James Baker.

Just finished the Intro to Computer Science final exam. One of the students came up to me and asked if they could use a calculator. Here's the problem:

0.2 * (10/4)

Days like this is when I realize I should have gone to law school, like Mom wanted me to.

Not sure I follow. It this because they didn't just do the math in their head, or because they didn't have access/permission to use a computer during a computer science exam, lol?

Should we bring these extinct species back to once again walk the earth?
Absolutely! But they should walk in zoos. And nothing that can fly. I'd love to see a Dodo.

Common misconception is that the Dodo was hunted to extinction. While Dodos were hunted by sailors the factor contributing most to there extinction were the critters the Dutch brought with them--dogs, cats, monkeys, and rats. Over 4 million years, the Dodo had evolved from pigeons on an island with no predators, lots of fruit, nested on the ground, and had no defense against predators.

Close, Orlando. Good job.

I sent the picture to a friend that works in Homeland Security Investigations. He sent the picture to the satellite that searches for a specific point anywhere on the earth, and it came up with the address. I'll let him know it was off by a little bit.

Ok, not really...I did a real estate search...

I'm not sure tannerite would do that... I thought it would take a bit more enegy to set it off.

Probably so, tannerite needs a pretty hefty force to set off the reaction. I think I recall hearing that many sub-sonic rounds normally wouldn't set it off.

Something can’t be “as American as apple pie” as neither the apple or the pie originated in the United States
Sure it can. It just doesn't mean what people think it means...

Still doomed.

So the denominator would always be a 3?

I'm reminded of a Saturday Night Live bit, which was closer to the show's premiere episode in 1975 than to the present day, which is ... interesting:

Either way I think there was a surplus of tequila involved in the manufacture & use.

See post # 57 above as me thinks something else may have been lurking in the minds of some of those involved ... :D

My plane is already faster l use MPH, nuts to knots
aaarrrrggghhhhh!!!! I fly 2 planes that could be twins in every way except 1 thing... 1 has an AI in Knots, and the other is in MPH. My kids laughed at me when I tried to take off at 55 mph.. said I should stick to one plane..

They aren’t, they are only required for aerobatics with a passenger. FAR 91.307 (c)
Lol guess I should been more specific in my post. Either way, good luck to the passenger trying to get out of a RV-8 when they realize 5 seconds before impact that the end is near.
