Hey all,

At Rough River, the topic of fall fly-ins came up and we are moving Gaston's from October to September or thereabouts. The goal is to make it a little more VFR friendly, farm friendly, dodge a couple other events, and yet not be roasted in the heat and humidity that Arkansas has on offer.

If you haven't been to Gaston's, it is a stretch 100 cabins between the White River and a runway. It is great for fishing, nature hiking, chilling and most cabins have kitchens and the restaurant is pretty good, so your dining is covered either way. Depending on who shows and with what, we do a mix of grilling, snacking and restaurants, but always the huge Sunday brunch in the restaurant.

It is not so great if you want to stay in your motor home or tent it but there is a state park a couple miles up the road, so not bad at all. The cancel policy annoys some but seems like a decent compromise - if you book it and gotta cancel for weather a few days out, find another weekend and come on down (up to a year later) or lose the deposit.

Hoping to see some of the regular and meet some new friends too. Pick a date and I will work on the signup sheet momentarily. Got any questions, drop them in the thread.

Devil/details. I’m in, barring any life events getting in the way.

Don’t care what weekend.

Oh yeah, Chicago style: vote early, vote often.

Let's see who's in? @JCranford @Jim K @crash7 @SCCutler @SixPapaCharlie @eman1200 @flyingcheesehead @JEM68 @Dave Theisen @kayoh190 @Bill @N4984R @NealRomeoGolf @EdFred @OkieFlyer @Greg Bockelman @bbchien @Rgbeard @steingar (assuming you didn't sell yet) @RyanB . I'm sure I omitted some but hopefully @kaiser and @Jim K and others will fill in the invites.
@Lance F @Arrow Flyer @N4984R
@NealRomeoGolf you should bring Mrs. Golf.

If everyone who doesn't care could just go ahead and vote for sep. 29, that'd be great.

If you'll excuse me, I need to go open some burner emails to spam the poll with.

Weekend of the 29th works for us! I believed i have a deposit credit on file for not being able to go last year while being tied up with annual! Looking forward to coming this fall!!

I'm game for any of those dates, although it's a little far out to know for sure. My wife starts a new job in August so we're still trying to figure out what our new reality will look like.

That said, if there's any way I can make it work - I'll be there!

I think it’s @ArrowFlyer86

For those who can’t or won’t fly into 3M0 (Tree Mike Zero), KBPK is a good sized field with approaches, and a free shuttle to the resort.

One year the winds were way out of spec so we all ended up there.

Good for any weekend.
Per Jim's instructions I'll vote for his preferred weekend :). But anytime works. Definitely going!

We definitely plan to attend. Gaston's is lovely. A bit of a state park feel, similar to Rough River, always clean and friendly. Pets are welcome, too - Eugene is already packing for his second Gaston's adventure.

I’m a definite maybe. I’m starting a 10 week fairly intensive school for work in early September.

Probably not going to make it this year. I’m already going to the Reno Air Races and Triple Tree, so even if you choose the last weekend. I don’t think I could pull off three weekends in a row.

Jill and I are good for 29th, 30th. I think she has to work that Friday morning. If she can’t switch, it’ll be around 4pm before we’d get there.

Reno is on my fingers crossed list

not sure if I'll make it but I did like and subscribe!
It’s only 4 hrs in a fast Mooney! That’s a good 1h 45m faster than me if I take the Cub!

I can do the last weekend in maybe the second weekend listed.

I'd sure love to be there, but I also hope to catch the Last Ever Reno Air Races and of course 6Y9 so we'll see whether the family is up for two fly-ins that close together. I mean, my older son sure would be (though he still requires a certain level of supervision) and my younger son is unable to object since he can't even talk yet at 10 weeks old, so I guess I just have to convince my beautiful bride. :D

So… did we finalize the 29th/30th?

Yup, the most votes take it, even with all the ballot stuffing and back room dealing.

I’ll get a room booked for Jill and I. Who is drawing the short straw and getting the bigger “party” cabin?

I think we are in. We were planning a trip that week but it looks like that one is going to go on the back burner.

Did I share a room with someone last year? For some reason I have absolutely no recollection...

I'm game for the party cabin.

Ugh. Waited a bit too long to book a room in the 2 story buildings. Ended up with a slightly more expensive stand alone cottage.

I need to call and book something too but haven’t yet

@masloki have we booked the party cabin?
Well that’d consolidate most of the beer in one place, so that seems like a good idea. I haven’t booked yet. You wanna do it two years running? I though it was like the grill at RR, where the noobs took it over each year

Party cabin is booked - it will be great to see familiar folks and hopefully some new faces too!

They confirmed they still have some King bedrooms left for $155 per night but the double beds are sold out. If you are thinking about coming, best call soon to secure the price and place you want.

I'm booked as well. Now I just gotta figure out what to do with all these kids....
