the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

What happened?
A guy started a youtube channel and took that old, niche British term to the masses. I believe his claim to fame is that he mfg'rd "custom" wooden hangars for bespoke suits. Now everything he does is bespoked. Even custom Texas cowboy boots. Then everyone else jumped on the b-wagon. Same with all things ASMR....

It’s the new word for “custom” since “custom” was abused and bent to mean “name brand dishwasher.”
It's the *old* word for custom that's come back into custom since "Kingsman" hammered on it.

Nauga,
who knows mannerisms maketh the man

I thought it was not just "old" but "old world". I always took it to be distinctly British, like "colour", "olde", "aluminium", etc.

My wife and her friend got lost in the badlands of New Mexico today. We called off the search about 15 minutes before sundown. The temp at the time was in the lower 40s with the low tonight expected to be in the mid teens.

Ok, maybe it was the mediocre trails outside of our property. They went to take a walk after eating, and after an hour I started thinking they might have gone too far, so I called my wifes cell phone. It started ringing while on the kitchen counter. So her friends husband called her cell, and no answer. That worried us enough to get a search started for them.

After about a mile we found them on the trail leading to the back of our massive 3 acre property. Turns out they had made a wrong turn on the trail and it took them a while to find their way back to the right trail.

So to add to todays excitement... we did find mountain lion tracks along the trail. They were old, about a week or 10 days maybe, but still, last month a mountain lion was spotted in the area by a few of the neighbors.

They’re pretty nice. I highly recommend Premium Economy.
Flew business… highly recommend

don’t forget to tell them you’re a multi engine rated pilot in case they need help
Not yet multi rated :( had to discontinue due to OVC008 -SN BR

The flight school owner / instructor I trained with is a 787 captain for AA, for his 'day job'. He says it's an amazing machine. (Got a few brownie points r/e that, since I was the mechanical designer for the crash recorder on that bird.)
The 787 was insanely quiet (engine/airframe), which causes other issues - we could hear everyone around us. That’s almost more annoying - including the guy that drank too much and made himself sick. (The paramedics met us at the gate sick)

If you think the 787 is quiet -- try an A380. Not that I will again, since I'm not flying BA again if I can avoid it.

I think LH pulled out the A380s - don’t give up hope yet. Upper deck economy on an A380 is verrry nice. Not as nice as business class on 787 but still. @kaiser which airline did you use to hop the Atlantic?
In other not worthy of its own thread news, I no longer rent my hangar.

Congrats on the hangar!

I quite liked LH’s Business class but spent most of my time on their 747-800 (back when I traveled lots). I have yet to experience A350 or A380. I did get to ride 1st class (real first class) in an A340-600 from Munich to Chicago once- it was some sort of free upgrade from business. If you can imagine business class as “double” economy, first class is double business class. For example, it was such a large suite that the footrest was an ottoman that was so far away, there was a switch to activate and brings the ottoman closer. I had 4 windows to my seat!

Not that I would do the flight in this weather outside right now, but was thinking...
Take off at home base and it's 58 F, fly about 100nm and it's 28 F.
... That is what I call a COLD front.

Well I stepped into the 21st century and got an iPhone 14+. I was rocking an 8 and at fully charged, after three texts and one picture, it dropped to low battery. I also upgraded my iPod mini from a 2 to a 5 since Foreflight won't update a 2 anymore. I have to take them to work with me so the kids can show me how to switch everything over.

On another note: Still waiting for my Power Flow exhaust to ship. I was told the last week of November and no word at all. After today I'll give them a call. I haven't flown since the end of March.

Ouch. Why did you remove the old one? I remember seeing your for sale thread; I assumed that meant you had the new one on.

Kind of a long story. It was going down for annual April 1st. I decided to install an engine monitor and replace a couple of push rod tubes. Then it was discovered that the rocker pin bushings needed to be replaced and reamed. Well the reamer was unobtainable and so for and so on and time kept marching on. We go busy with customer's airplanes and didn't have a lot of time for mine. Since the cowl was already off and it was a few weeks until the new exhaust shipped, I decided just to remove the old exhaust and install it and be done with everything in the engine bay. So here I am.

no rentals available? no hangar neighbors u can fly with? no local PoAers you can scrounge a ride with? no Q400's you can steal?

I guess I should have been more specific. I haven't flown MY plane since March. I've flown a couple of times in a friend's Mooney but that's about it. I have a 172 that is available to me but I just don't feel right flying someone else's plane.

Just now (Power Flow must have been listening or reading) they just charged my card which they said they'd do when the carrier picked up the exhaust for shipping. So I guess its on it's way.

now I see why he keeps delaying his plane getting fixed......more mooney time!
Got a taste of that Mustang wing :D

When do I dare look at my IRA and 401k's? It is coming up to the end of the year. When do I want to stare at this dumpster fire of a year square in the face? (or ignore it and pretend everything is OK)

I'm nowhere near withdrawing, so I'm all in favor of crashing. It's my way to buy-low-sell-high.

I was hoping to punch out in 1.5 years. I thought - wait one more year before moving a chunk out of stocks and into a safe harbor to weather a down turn.

I thought wrong :)

it’s all part of the “incredible transition”. isn’t it fun?!?

It will likely be a lot better next year. All the tech stocks were crazy overpriced and required a correction.

If that's in reference to fossil fuels, that's an interesting view. Didn't oil companies have a great year in the stock market, especially compared to other sectors? I think someone who bought an oil company mutual fund at the beginning of the year, or Exxon for example, would be up by quite a bit. And gas prices are back to where they were like 14 years ago, which is pretty remarkable in my opinion.
