Hims for life?

So I am in hims and just trying to get a straight answer, is it monitoring for life or 8 years?
The whole experience has been horrible and just trying to figure out how long this goes on.

After year 4 you get 4 serum PETHS random per year. When you are cut loose from randoms after year 6, a HIMS AME Has to issue you ….

It depends first on what you mean by “monitoring”.

Random drug and alcohol biomarker testing CAN end at 6 or 8 years (can’t remember). IF your AME and the Feds agree.

Like Doc said, a HIMS AME has to “issue” for EVER. So, his observation of you NEVER goes away, so in a way, he is monitoring your recovery so to speak. For life. If he (your AME) thinks he needs to see the results of random testing to aid in his observation of you, well, then you get that too. If he wants to see a report from a shrink, then you get that. He has the option (which can be over ridden by the feds) of simply seeing you twice a year, at a point when he is comfortable with that, AND you have “served the minimum”.

Basic Med does offer a way out, though, for pilots who can live with its limitations.

Better than making sure a suicidal pilot diagnosed as an alcoholic does not drink using a test as well known for false negatives as false positives administered and reviewed by a ophthalmologist? Nah, your idea doesn’t make a lick of sense…. Geesh

Thanks yall. I asked because I'm 121 and in management so not flying. And wanted to see if I should do it now and get the time over with or what to do all the 14 test a year and stuff like that if I ever go back on the line. I think ill just keep doing it and get to where monitoring is minimum in like 8 years.

So I can get basic med if I let my medical expire? I haven't drank in over 3 years, and I enjoy being sober. No desire to drink again so, in the long run, getting a DUI was good for me. and here's my issue now with HIMS now. I like to sign up for overtime. We sign up to pick up extra SIM lessons usually days and weeks in advance. My randoms are usually available 8am-6pm so if I do 2 sim sessions in a day (12 hour daycause the second being overtime) there's a really good chance I won't make my random drug test. Im not flying for the airline anymore just doing training but I still would like to take my wife and kids on flights to get lunch. Just wanna make sure if I let my SI expire in june I can get basic med.

As I understand it and what I understand of what you want to do… yes. Let it expire, go basicmed, no more HIMS requirements at all.

More importantly, no more playing Russian roulette with your basic med capability… HIMS is by their own volition, PURELY Russian roulette with a career and the ability to fly.

for some it appears to be for life!
