This crash will have consequences.

It's news for conspiracy theorists. Honestly, if you are really worried about your paranoia, then stay away from these tabloid sites. As someone who is dealing with a very close family member who is now home-bound and unemployable due to their paranoia, (and to whom right-wing propaganda like this is perfectly tailored to), I encourage you to more stringently evaluate the veracity of your news sources. And ask yourself if consuming this content makes your life better.
:yeahthat:

There are several young femmes on this site (as well as young males) with the same political views. Maybe rather than skewing to age, race, and gender, the site skews toward intelligence.

I think you're right about that. As a relative newcomer to aviation forums, I noticed right away the discourse is a cut above what is normally found.

The problem is that we are running out of conspiracy theories. They are all turning out to be true.
Unfortunately I've had to learn that there is no debating a conspiracy theorist. By definition, they can just keep refuting any evidence (that a reasonable person would accept) as false. Occum's Razor is meaningless to a conspiracy theorist.
Doing it with a stranger on the internet is one thing, but seeing an otherwise intelligent loved one fall prey to this kind of confirmation bias that's enabled by the modern internet without any acknowledgement of their condition on their part is pretty disheartening.

This is all pretty much meaningless as we can’t account for various biases of people who do the scoring in the first place.
It is the age-old problem of who watches the watchers … the only solution is pretty much absolute free speech for everyone and let people decide for themselves …

I don't think there's a modern society where absolute free speech is allowed. I am not allowed to libel you to the extent that it causes you harm, for example.

This ties directly to this thread because the "news" site referenced by the topic creator did exactly that to a company involved in the last election, and subsequently had to publicly issue an apology and retraction, and is now getting the crap sued out of them. Left unchecked, these things can cause real damage to our society.

Not as much damage as having some kind of designated truth priests caste … that never ends well.
Even often quoted “yelling fire in a theater” is just not correct … it is and should be legal to do so , but if your speech results in harm to others ( as in case of libel you mentioned ) there will be consequences … but you need to first prove that there was some serious harm done , speech alone is NOT violence.

King Air threat to Walmart?

please provide a link about the rc plane thing; seems completely absurd

OK Here is a direct quote from Dave Messina, who is on the committee dealing with the FAA/Drone/RC Model "dialog".
Dave and I were face to face as we are both working "Safety" at the Rhinebeck Jamboree this weekend.
Dave says "As the rules are currently written, if you are a certificated pilot (PPL, SPL, etc, etc) and you get caught caught breaking a part 107 rule (drones and radio control models) you will probably lose your 107 cert and your pilot certification. "
He also says that everyone except the FAA think this rule is insane. so far the FAA is NOT budging on this.
He says he will get me the exact chapter and verse on this so I can post it here.
And a picture from today's activities. As always, some amazing models and flying today.

Dave is saying, in effect, that part 107 violations have harsher penalties than part 91 violations. Smells like FUD to me. I think changing "probably" to "possibly" results in something far closer to reality, but that doesn't get people as wound up.

Feel free to assume my gender, sexual identity, and pronouns.

In case it wasn't clear, I was being silly. I always assume peoples' basic "identities" because I do not see the logic of encouraging people with mental illness to believe that their mental illness is reality. I prefer helping people overcome, cope, and/or heal from mental illness and trauma. :)

Are you a psychiatrist?

I identify as a psychiatrist. :D

Seriously, though, gender dysphoria is considered a mental illness by legitimate pyschiatrists. If you google simply "gender dysphoria", it comes up with many official medical sites labelling it as such. And this link is even "sympathetic" to that lifestyle and still qualifies it as a mental illness: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/conditions/gender-dysphoria

aero medical disagrees with you. Well… at least to the point they will issue a first class to people that don’t view themselves to be the same gender as their biological sex. In fact some holders of a first class medical carry more than one gender identity uniform because they never quite know how they will identify from day to day.

Don’t worry though FAA aero med is on top of our collective safety ensuring everyone behind the front door is stable enough to fly.

Well, so far it's still included in the DSM, so it's still considered a mental illness officially, whether or not the FAA med branch includes it.

From that source- I see:
The level of distress experienced by someone with gender dysphoria can be significant, and individuals do much better if they are in supportive environments, allowed to express their gender in the way that’s most comfortable to them, and are given knowledge that, if necessary, treatments exist to reduce the sense of incongruence they feel.

How do you reconcile that with this statement?

"plane hits severe turbulence with 75 aboard, all survive, 3 with minor injuries"

vs

"Boeing MAX jet plummets thousands of feet, injuring several, nearly killing everyone"

Everyone claims to prefer the former, but somehow that will not get the clicks and the ad revenue traffic. The truth is people generally seem to prefer the latter.

So what does that person’s drivers license say?

Law enforcement possibly. Hypothetical curiosity any way. FWIW I think the world has gone freaking nuts.

Yeah. I watched about three minutes of one video after he popped up in chatter here. The dude is a tool.

No idea. There are times when it’s better to read up on the latest FOM revision and avoid unnecessary conversation.
I’m starting to think this is a real person you’re talking about.

Trans World Airlines back in business?
Well. I must have come across as being humorous. It was not my intent.

I have an opinion on the issue that I’m not going to share here because there is no way it can be discussed without devolving into political discussion. My intent in posting was to let people know they should not make assumptions and be careful how they addressed crew. It is truly a diverse group of people.

No worries—I think we can all agree that people deserve respect regardless of how they present. Particularly in a professional setting.

Thanks for sharing. I question your motivation for doing so, particularly in this thread on this forum, but thanks all the same.

How do you reconcile that with this statement?

That source says that it is a mental illness. I reconcile that by treating people as people, not as some s3xually-oriented object. I won't go into "preferred pronouns", but I will refrain from calling them anything but their name to their face. You can treat someone nicely without reinforcing their issues. I don't usually change how I deal with people based on their biological gender, so it causes surprisingly little issues in my life.

I'm going to respectfully bow out of this thread now, though, because I allowed myself to be drawn in way further into this discussion than I was initially planning and I don't think there is any benefit in my continued involvement. :)

Yes, them. And a few medical people, too. And probably a few other exceptions. But the rest of us have no reason to concern ourselves. None of our business.
We need to be able to share common language and vocabulary - you know …. to be able to communicate.

sometimes people confuse I don't care with no one should care.
