Stolen King Air still flying as of 8:38am on Sat (9-3-22)

Both of my parents grew up in Tupelo, and all 4 of my grandparents are buried there. Still have dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins, etc there. Always felt like my hometown. I lived there when my dad was in Vietnam.

My cousin who makes the "international airport" jokes has a very successful business in the furniture industry there. He gets involved in a lot of the local government activities to promote the economy, but he is decidedly of the small government ideology, so a bunch of money wasted on a bad idea is catnip to him.

Had another cousin who was the US Congressman for that district. He died in office of a brain tumor.

Sorry for the thread jack; when you get older, history has feelings.

My dad was a good friend of CD Lemons, for whom the Tupelo airport is named.

I would guess my grandfathers knew him. Both of them came to Tupelo in the mid-40's.

My mom was a high school girl in the front row for the most famous event in Tupelo history: the Elvis concert at the 1956 state fair.

“Cory Patterson is having his initial appearance at Tupelo Municipal Court.
Patterson faces a charge of grand larceny and terroristic threats .
Tony Farese is representing Patterson, but Farese is not at the hearing.”

Walking into any public place with an AR-15, loaded or unloaded, seems like a real good way to get yourself killed ... especially if they are aiming it at folks.

If/when a gun is pointed at me I have no way to know if it's loaded or if the person has a mental illness or not. At that point I'm gonna attempt do what I need to do to keep me and those with me alive ...
After the plane landed it would be the same as if the guy dropped the AR 15 - he was no longer "armed" with a King Air, was no longer a threat that justified lethal deterrence.

True. But that was not the point of my post.

Certainly when the threat is eliminated (by whatever means required) there is no longer a need for the use of force. That's not only common sense but it's also a part of good training ...

I'm guessing those engines are most of the value of the plane, and that they are destroyed. The gear is sheared off, and maybe the frame bent.

I can see how an earlier post offered that the plane was a complete write off. Shame

Yeah, KA 90s just don't have any value anymore. Looking at the props it appears that the engines were at power when they hit the ground, so no value left there either.

charged with terrorist crimes, don’t most ins policies exclude terrorism?
is the definition of terrorism in the crime involved similar to the definitions in your average insurance contract?

A lot of that will just buff out.

I see the front right passenger window is missing. Wonder if that happened during the accident sequence?

Gear are wiped out, engines and props are toast, probably at least some minor airframe damage. I'm not sure a 1987 C90 is worth enough to repair.

Based on my non-lawyer read of that document, he didn't do that, because he changed his mind and attempted to land, rather than destroy, the aircraft. If he tried to destroy it, he wouldn't be alive now.

However...if that charge is legitimate, I think the guy who crashed the plane while parachuting down wearing fire extinguishers DID commit that charge, as to me it seems like he planned and completed the destruction of the aircraft.

He’s not a pilot, he’s a ramp rat. I’ve known him for 10-15 years. He went into work to open the fbo this morning, pulled the king air out, and took off before the tower opened.

This isn’t him… nobody knows what triggered him, but I hope he gets mental help.

I am so sorry this involved an associate of yours.

From the article referenced above, the note he wrote said he picked walmart because it would be easy to evacuate, so no one would be hurt, and more or less that nobody would care about a financial loss to walmart as they treated everyone badly anyway.

It's a sad story.
