I’m getting blood work done for my Medicare physical and since I’m mostly vegan I asked for a B12 test. The reason given on the order is:
R40.3 Persistent vegetative state.

Wait it’s not April!

Eh what? Was it a typo or something?

You should be worried.
Clinical Information:
  • Vegetative state refers to the neurocognitive status of individuals with severe brain damage, in whom physiologic functions (sleep-wake cycles, autonomic control, and breathing) persist, but awareness (including all cognitive function and emotion) is abolished.
Your doctor must be thinking that being vegan kills you.

Sound like the doctor was trying to be funny.

I hope it doesn't cause problems for you.

Pretty funny - clearly a miscode, but the question will be how much of a sense of humor FAA medical has.

I would worry that you could receive a never-ending series of phone calls from an FAA job recruiter! Or, possibly some other government agency.
