Tesla Hit & Run - SOLVED!!! (long)

I assume those channels just search for clips like that to aggregate and then monetize from their compilations. I granted permission across the board - I can’t see any harm from doing so.

My favorite is Wham Bam Teslacam, recommended by a forum member in the other Tesla thread.

Some of these accidents just having me shaking my head. The first guy, getting pushed for 1/2 mile and the truck driver didn’t know they hit something? Good thing for Tesla cam.

Went to court last Wednesday on the “leaving the scene”. The State suggested dismissal after the defendant met certain conditions. I objected and showed her the FaceBook screenshots we took, and said I’d like an adjudication on the charges, especially since this wasn’t his first hit-and-run. In the end he pled guilty and was so adjudicated with a fine, so it will stay on his record. Probably the best we could hope for.

As an aside, still waiting to hear back from the body shop about scheduling the repair. Not a big deal, since the car is fully driveable but we’d still like to get it done.

Has Wham Bam Teslacam published your video yet?

How is repeat offender hit and run not an automatic license suspension? I believe in some states, if there is an injury, it's a felony. Letting people get away with multiples, especially contrasted to the penalties for drunk driving, is nuts, and encourages people to run away. Sorry, ranting. Glad you got him.

It especially encourages people to run when they are drunk, since intoxication can’t be proven later and the penalty for running is a wrist slap if they’re even caught.

I asked about that. The answer was he was only being tried for the misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene. He may have been driving with a suspended license but any further license action would take place independently, separate from Wednesday’s trial. Or something like that.

It’s not unusual for an arrestee to come back with a dozen pages of priors. Even multiple DUI’s. Seems like they should have long since been locked away, but the system is far from perfect at dispensing justice. Glad to get even a small win - they’re all too rare.

As a followup, it was suggested we file a claim for “diminished value”. It took a while for us to press the matter, and some delay in getting the insurance company moving on it, but apparently a check is in the mail for about $2,955. We have no idea how that was calculated, but we were guessing between $2k and $5k so we’re not unhappy. The repair seems flawless, so it remains to seen how much of a factor the accident history will actually have when the car is actually sold. Still loving the car, and will do a I year of ownership report next month.
