my first reaction is the statement being replete with buzzwords without saying much...

and then "counter-UAS equipment" .... hmmmm.

and another:

"Create a Federal UAS incident tracking database as a government-wide repository for departments and agencies to have a better understanding of the overall domestic threat"

oy...

It only took the government 4 years to come up with this...
 
FYI: this is actually nothing new. There has been an ongoing process involving the FAA and others since 2014 or so on drone issues in the NAS. What has surfaced in recent times is the red-tape and other issues involved with this process which led to an investigation by the DOT IG. The IG report was released last month which detailed some of the delays in the national counter-drone policies. So I guess the current administration saw a window of opportunity to make a headline or two. The IG report below gets into the details. And just to add, there are several "UAS incident tracking databases" already in existence.

Four years? More like two years, three months, and six days.
 
Fed Govt Rep #1: What are we going to do about this new problem?
Fed Govt Rep #2: I don't know. What did we do about the last problem?
Fed Govt Rep #1: We made people forget about the problem with buzzwords and databases. Pretty standard stuff, really.
Fed Govt Rep #2: Let's do that again. Seemed to work well enough.
