AARGGGHHH!!!

I broke a tooth a couple of weeks ago and have to get a crown on it. It is a molar on my left side. Of course the side I normally chew with. Wednesday I had almost all the work done and now have the temporary on.

I HATE THAT STUPID TEMP CROWN!!

IT feels like I have a wad of gum stuck to my tooth!!!

It is driving me nuts

Just keep a wide stance, Scott, and you'll forget about it in no time... :D:cheerswine:

I can sympathize with that. About a month ago I had two crowns done, one on each side. The dentist warned me that to do both at one time he would have to numb both sides. I didn't care about that, I just wanted to get it all over with at once, but I didn't consider that I would also have temporaries on both sides. That made chewing a bit of an issue. Glad I have the permanent ones now!

Had a crown put on a couple years ago. DDS called and said that the permanent crown came in and he could put it on when ever I was ready. So I go in to have it done, they pop the temp of, clean it all up, get it all ready to install the permanent crown, open the little box and I hear the dental tech say "Oops! did you order gold?" I said "nope" and she said "Oops" again ;(

So, they had to re-order my crown and put the temp back on. I was not a very happy camper. As hard as I tried they wouldn't even reduce the price for their screw up. It's bad enough going through all that once!

Want to rant? Open up the bill...

Four crowns up front, one on 3 of the molars... Just think of the alternative. A bridge or a partial or a whole damned plate. Crown every one of my teeth; just keep the freeking plate.

Could be worse, you could have my problems. lol. I lost a lot of mine in a accident working on a hangar door years ago.

You need a new dentist. If I need a crown or partial crown I'm in and out with the new crown in about 2 hours. The cost is about the same, meaning outrageous, but at least I don't have to go back.

I had one(temp) put in just left of front. Randy is a artist of the business. A couple weeks later a crusty pizza helped the crown dislodge. No problem; I popped it right back on and just stayed aware of the insecurity until Randy got back from vacation.

About a week later I was mowing my lawn grass. When it got to be short of dusk the mosquitos came out. One flew into my mouth, at which time I did the proverbial Pitooie!; and moments later noticed that the crown was gone. #%@&*$%@#$!

Aware of the direction I was facing when I spit out the mosquito I began searching in the grass which was about 5" tall. Below the grass on a 10 year old lawn are a lot of small white pebbles. There was no immediate joy as I carefully filtered the grass with my fingers. Finally, I got the grass shears and while on my knees I'd take a left handful of grass, snip it close to the ground and search. Envision an area of 18 or 20 sq. feet.
About 45 minutes of that routine and VOILA!, there was the little white jewel staring up at me. I gave it a good Listerine* bath, and popped it back on. Randy and the technician were just howling when I told them what had happened. A quick glue job and I was out of there; no problems since that time.

If you think finding that one was tough, think about those poor souls who accidentally swallow their crowns...:hairraise:

Harley, why didn't you just use some FixODent or something to hold it in until Randy was back? Or I bet his/her staff could have provided some temporary adhesive. THat's what I did when my temp became loose.

But that IS a great story!

Funny! Her Majesty was here at the time and offered me some of the dental glue from *her* procedures in Florida. But my temp. was a perfect fit when I popped it into place and it stayed, though I was careful to remain aware of the additional "temporariness."

All I want to say is that my mouth hurts even more today than when I had the tooth ground down. Seems that my temporary has an airpocket in it. Yesterday I was at the lake and taught several scuba course. All together I had about 8 descents and ascents. The little air pocket would fill with air at depth and then when I returned to the surface took about 10 minutes or so to equalize. So all that time I have a nice amount of pressure on the tooth. After a few of those my mouth really started hurting!!

I hope when the final crown gets put on there is no air pocket!

I feel for ya, Scott! Long story which I won't get into because it is prolly boring, but I have been on a two year epic voyage through dental nightmares to have a front incisor removed and a replacement implanted. Finally, finally on July 10 I am scheduled to have the final crown screwed/bolted/welded/affixed and I can get rid of this d*mn temporary flipper....

That was one of my fears when I went diving with a temporary. However, I was lucky and didn't have a problem.

I think it was also related that when one teaches scuba there are lots of ascents and descents that we have to do. Many of which are spent slowing down students who are sprinting for the surface. It is one of the reasons that if you look at accident rates vs certification level there is a decrease until instructor and then a huge spike.

I think one of the reasons I didn't play high school hockey was because I hated and feared dentists so much. (Well, that, and my inability to skate with any skill. As the coach said during tryouts, "son, why don't you stick with football.")

So I had a dental implant on tooth #10 (between your front tooth and canine tooth) a couple of years ago. Which came after a failed root canal. That experience fully reinforced my hatred and fear of dentists.

"Our Union is now complete; our Constitution composed, established, and approved. You are now the guardians of your own liberties. We may justly address you as the decemviri did the Romans, and say: "Nothing that we propose can pass into a law without your consent. Be yourselves, O Americans, the authors of those laws on which your happiness depends."

Samuel Adams, August 1, 1776
Stan I just noticed your sig file. You might want to check the validity of that quote.

The Constitution of the US was not even started on 1 Aug 1776. It was finally approved 17 Sep 1787 and the Bill of Rights was signed 15 Dec 1791

Maybe just the date is wrong. I don't know.

It appears to be correct. See this link, second to last paragraph.

Interesting. I wonder what he meant by that term? Obviously the US Constitution was years away and the Articles of Confederation were not signed until 1778. Sam Adams was a signer of those as he was of the Declaration of Independence.

Sharp eyes, Scott, and thanks for the validation, Skip.

I noticed that too when I pulled up this speech by Samuel Adams in Pennsylvania. (Just something I love to do, especially around the 4th of July.) I cross checked my source to one other one (not Skip's citation from nationalcenter.org), and so I presumed it to be accurate. This was my first source:

http://patriotpost.us/histdocs/samuel_adams_advocates_american_independence.asp

I did not research this further, but I suspect that "Constitution" in Adams' context might have meant the framework for this country, as reflected in the Declaration of Independence. Now I'm motivated to look into this a little more.

The entire speech (abridged version) is outstanding, but just a little long for a signature. :)
