They are offering a good trade-in for my SkyBeacon.
I only fly VFR and have the original panel in my C182P (original Xponder as well).

I would like to know:
- It says global coverage, so I guess it also includes Canada and the Caribbean?
- Does AV-30-C allow me to remove the vacuum system?
- Any better alternatives, considering I plan to fly to/over Canada regularly?

Yes[1], yes[2] and yes[3].

[1]Canada is phasing in Aireon, which begins in 2023 for class A and B and 2023 and the rest in 2026 so no real hurry just yet. I'm not sure about the Caribbean.
[2]There's a couple caveats there, but if you're strictly VFR you never needed a vacuum system to begin with.
[3]"Better" is a somewhat nebulous concept, but the TailBeaconX is probably the cheapest.

Last I knew, the SkyBacon was not Canada-certified, (nor Mexico) as it's not a 1090 Mhz device.

The SkyBeacon X is/was the answer to this.
As far as I know, there is no SkyBeaconX, only TailBeaconX.
 
I think you'll need 2 AV-30-Cs to remove your vacuum system. While the AV-30-C can be switched between AI and DG functions, the FAA wants you to have an instrument dedicated to each function.

Fyi the tailbeacon x is not out yet. They say the FAA has all the paperwork and it should be any day. 2 weeks ago they said 1 to 2 weeks..... I've had mine ordered for over a year now....... It's gonna be good when it comes out.

As far as vacuum. Yes your can as long as it HO is electric otherwise you will need 2 av 30s. I have an av30c and a g5 love both.

The international but refers to the adsb capability and uavionix is working with Canada and their system

For VFR flight an AI is not required, nor is a DG, unless the DG is taking the place of your magnet compass.

dg cannot take the place of a magnetic compass unless it has a flux gate hooked to it.
 
FWIW I have AV-30 in several aircraft and they work well. The HDG feature is not great and will precess, but the rest is very good. In two planes they get an RS-232 signal from a GPS navigator which they can show on an HSI screen. Have a TailBeaconX on order for a txp-free plane for about a year. It will then be controlled from the AV-30.

Does the AV30C provide a moving map display from an external GPS? Similar to the Gi275.
 
It will show a lateral deviation d-bar as in an HSI or an ARC ("map") mode wherein the course to the current waypoint (only) is shown. In flight view of HSI mode (driven by RS-232 output from navigator).

If I understand correctly, its only via an external source that shows one segment at a time and VFR only. I'm starting to lean towards the GI275. I do like the fact that with the new TailBeacon X, I can use the AV30C as a Transponder.

The map + HSI mode on the 275 is a very busy picture. I love my dual 275 installation, but I rarely use the enhanced HSI page, especially not in an approach situation. The iPad is a much better MFD screen than the 275 (and an iPad mini + an AV30 is a whole lot cheaper than a GI-275 ADHARS). If the only reason you're thinking about a 275 over an AV30 is for the enhanced HSI page, I'd buy the iPad mini and the AV30.

On the other hand, in my opinion, the 275 is a better HSI than the AV30. It supports 2 GPS and 2 NAV inputs (although there are some limitations on the nav inputs, depending on the source radios), has bearing pointers, drives legacy autopilots (yay GPSS on a Century IIB, what a world we live in), already has an external magnetometer so there's no DG drift problems, and can remove more legacy equipment. But it's also more expensive to purchase, more expensive to keep up ($800 in batteries between the two units every 5-10 years), and probably more expensive to install (must be installed by a Garmin dealer, has the external magnetometer to install, and has a lot of interconnection wires). I say all this and I'll probably install a 3rd 275 next year to use as a MFD/CDI to replace NAV2's mechanical CDI. What can I say, I'm addicted to technology.

That's because the GI275 *is* an HSI. The AV30 may look like an HSI but is not from a legal perspective with respect to IFR (think of it more as a DG with benefits).

Thanks for the reply. I'm currently looking into the AV30C to function as a CDI for a GPS input option. While trying to find out if the INS429 would be a good companion for IFR, as an ILS systems. If the AV30C overlaid a moving map, I was going use a cheaper GPS such as KLN89 that doesn't have a moving map. The used KLN94s are so high in price it seems to be more cost effect to move up to Garmin 175 GPS. My goal is to get IFR equipment into to my piper tomahawk with low cost and weight. Im also aware of the TSO built only status with the INS429. Which I've already confirmed I can get installed as an minor alteration.
