I was using Driver Update to update my PC's drivers. Something happened in the process of installing Intel's Optane driver. It put my computer in Safe Mode, now Driver Update won't start to get the computer out of Safe Mode. Is it possible for me to get the PC out of Safe Mode myself? I couldn't get any help out of Slim Ware (Driver Update's developer. ) Thanks

I found the answer on line. Run msconfig from the search window. In the boot tab, select boot normally. I selected load all services in the General tab.

The computer recovered. I uninstalled Driver Update , but won’t do the Optane Driver update after I reinstall it.

Let me rewrite that for you in a more explanatory manner —

I downloaded some random software from the internet to test whether it would break my computer. It did. A job well done.

It gets worse.

Google [SlimWare Driver Update]

Half the first page is about "uninstalling DriverUpdate". This is huge red flag.

A little mean maybe. But accurate.

I seldom apologize for being mean when it’s accurate.

Wish I had so little to do that I could randomly post snide comments that have nothing to do with solving the problem I asked for help on.

I had no problems uninstalling Driver Update and reinstalling it. After the reinstall, the _INTEL_ OPtane driver had not been installed, and I installed the AHCI driver with no problems.

I've used Driver Update for many years, with nary a problem until this one. If my computer getting stuck in Safe Mode is the worst thing that ever happened to it, I'd be deliriously happy.

As far as I can tell, Driver Update has never randomly installed random software on my computer. Microsoft Flight Simulator: Steam Edition, very popular, and quite mature, consistently corrupted my file system to the point it bricked my disk drive. I tried it one more time, and after scan now found many file errors immediately after installing FSX:SE, I pulled the plug on FSX:SE. Driver Update has never come close to bricking my computer.
