Like turkey. Love bacon.

Buuuuuuut......

I'm with ya' there. But as long as I understand that turkey bacon is NOT anywhere close to real bacon and cannot be substituted for bacon, then it's actually not bad; or at least the one I got from Costco isn't.

I recently perfected brioche french toast. Quick enough to make for the kids on a weekday. With an immersion mixer, combine eggs and milk with a little cinnamon and vanilla extract. Saturate the bread; it soaks in quickly if the bread is warmed up first. Cook on buttered cast iron skillet.View attachment 101741
When can I come over??

View attachment 101372Standard Father’s Day fare from my wonderful Daughter. From scratch, nothing artificial.
Getting her the Kitchenaid Mixmaster was one of my better investments.

Excellent! However I suspect that’s a store bought crust. She needs to learn how to make homemade pie crust using fresh leaf lard. She did a perfect job with the meringue. No weeping, nicely sealed, perfectly baked and browned. Looks so yummy.

Yes, I remember that she made extra pains to get the meringue just so. Awesome daughter have I.

A friend sent a discount to me for HelloFresh meals, so we tried them just for grins. They're really quite good. Don't have any pictures (yeah, I know, that's the title of the thread) but if you are running out of ideas for meals and want to try something different, you might look into them (I can send you a discount coupon). Neither of us is a very creative cook and we both hate spending a lot of time on cooking, so we get tired of the "basic" meals we do make. In addition, my husband has some stomach problems, and most of these meals have sat well with him. Kind of expensive without the discount, but still cheaper than eating in a restaurant, which is what we do 90% of the time when it's his night to cook.

If you aren't familiar with HelloFresh, the idea is they send you all the ingredients you need for a meal (except basics like salt, pepper, butter, oil), along with the instructions, and the ingredients are fresh, even the meat. It's a subscription that you can end any time, and you have a pretty broad range of choices. You can specify things like calorie conscious, carb conscious, etc. The main thing I don't like is some parts of the packaging are not recyclable, especially the insulated box lining. It's something you could reuse, but you don't need a ton of them, so if you get a box a week, you end up with a ton of them. Supposedly the ice pack (on which they lay the fresh meat) has a non-toxic filling that can go down the drain, but we have a septic system, so I'm a bit reluctant to do that. Really, the lining is the main problem.

But the meals are tasty and sure do break up the boredom, if that's a problem in your house. If you'd like a discount, send me your email in a PM and I'll send one. The way it works is you get something like $40 off the first week, $30 the next, etc.).

No, I do NOT work for HelloFresh. I'd never heard of it until my friend sent a discount coupon.

Beef. It's what's for dinner.

If I’m gonna cut a donut imma slice the top 1/4 off where the icing is and eat that.

Dude you bit my burger.

Bitburger. That is why I never fully liked it.

Unless it's a creme filled donut. Then you slice the top 1/4, the bottom 1/4, and the middle 1/4 is nirvana. :yesnod:

Middle 1/4?

Yeah, the math doesn't add up. In my case, I'd cut off the top 1/3, the bottom 1/3, and discard the middle 1/3. I hate the "creme" in creme-filled pastries. Unless it's cream cheese, then I'd eat the whole thing.

We do SunBasket! The exact same idea. I love it. We get 4 dinners a week that I cook, then Mark cooks mostly carnivore meals the other 3. We used to do Blue Apron and liked them too but switched to Sunbasket because they allow some flexibility with the protein. You can substitute different meats or vegetarian protein in most of the meals. Or order extra protein. Mark is allergic to scallops so if I want a scallop dish I order some separate shrimp, make the veggie part then cook the seafood separately. They also have the meals tagged: carb conscious, Mediterranean, vegetarian, vegan, paleo, etc.

You can also order all kinds of snacks and breakfast or lunch things. It is more expensive than Blue Apron but fits our needs better. We find that actually we don’t spend much more on food than we used to at the grocery store, because we used to buy more than we need and waste a lot. But we always eat all the SunBasket food.

SunBasket has biodegradable and recyclable packaging, insulation and cold packs. I just trash it all, we don’t have recycling here. I asked an engineer with the sewer company about pouring the cold pack gel down the drain and he said this: “I am not concerned about the gel packs clogging up the vacuum system considering the liquid in the vacuum mains is moving at a scouring velocity. I would be more concerned about them clogging up your internal piping or the gravity line exiting your home.”

Pulled pork sammich and potato salad from local mom and pop place.

Mango BBQ chicken drumsticks with risotto. I forgot to take a picture so that’s why the further drumstick is half eaten! Very easy to make in my air fryer.

Just when I thought the stupidity on this board couldn't possibly stoop any lower...we have this post.

Not a big fan of chicken or risotto I take it?

At the current price of beef, I wonder if you can purchase grilling insurance? New market segment?

Not a bad idea, but at an inch and a half thick, I doubt I'll screw it up because I like my stuff mooing. The chicken will be pretty well done. I didn't take a gratuitous photo of it because well, it is chicken. They will all be grilled up with Italian spices, and served up with some cole slaw and pesto.

Interesting.

I made Italian Swiss burger. A full pound, didn’t bother with bun or lettuce wrap but hey there is salad. 4D733599-2029-43C5-BE6A-F48807F82146.jpeg
