I've been saving up to add two G5s to my Piper Cherokee instrument panel and remove the entire vacuum system. I was going to make the upgrade the next time a component in the vacuum system needed attention. But, RC Allen has just come out with the MINI6 which has definitely caught my attention. It combines the entire six-pack into a single digital instrument. It looks like Aircraft Spruce will start shipping them October 15th. It has a replaceable backup battery and built-in magnetometer. I also considered the UAVIONICS AV-30-C (certified version), but my biggest complaint is that it doesn't currently have an option for a magnetometer. You have to periodically reset the DG just like the old vacuum system. At a current price of $3250 it is more expensive than the G5 or the AV-30-C, but you only need one unit to remove the entire vacuum system. It will be interesting to see the feedback from the community once owners start installing these units.

That's pretty cool; hadn't seen it yet. If they can make it drive a century autopilot, I'd be a buyer.

Information for the MINI6 is at kellymfg.com - Aircraft
Spruce also has the information on their website.

From aircraft spruce faq's...

Q: Is this RC ALLEN MINI6 instrument certified primary replacement for all 6 instruments?
It is certified as a primary instrument but does not allow the removal of the airspeed or the altimeter.

Q: Is the Mini6 compatible with a Century III auto-pilot?
The Mini6 does not have autopilot connectivity at this time. It is an expected future feature but currently is not available on the unit.

FYI: you'll need to get approved data for that install, maybe even an STC. While there is existing guidance to remove certain vac indicators as a minor alteration this option doesn't fall under those rules. Have installed a few RC products as a minor but you may want to discuss with your APIA first.

Steinger - the mini6 has TSO's for all 6 features (Certified) unlike others that are approved for installation - if you go to the manufacturers wed site you can get all the info on this product. I can't post web sites since I am new to this site.

The Mini6 does have TSO's for Airspeed and Altimeter and needs to be certified just like the units you have in your aircraft right now. I is really up to your regional FAA for that approval. As far as compatible with Century III autopilot - that is our next goal and hopefully we will have something by Sun N Fun 2022.

You're an RC Allen employee? If so please disclose that, perhaps in a signature line and/or your avatar. I think it's nice to see manufacturers participate in forums.

Yes - I am the GM at Kelly. Just found out about this form. I will always try and promote our products but there are so many great products out there and I like hearing about them.

In that case why doesn't Kelly obtain an AML-STC for the Mini-6? You might give the G5s a run if you did. While I prefer the RC line over the G5s in most VFR installs, its the FAA Policy statement that allows me to install an RC as a minor is the reason. Without the PS I would only be installing G5s as they provide an install approval. Something to think about.

I Completely agree with you - I'll leave it at that right now...

Looks cool. My C170 could use a digital AI and HSI. Maybe once I make captain…

what I really need is a vendor willing to make dummy invoices with a zero truncated…for the wife

What are plans for other autopilots...such as the BK AeroCruze 100?

I have an RCA 2600-3 in my Decathlon. Great piece of gear, simple and reliable. I fly pretty vigorous acro several times a week and am impressed by how quickly it rights itself. Not the same device but speaks well for the company IMO.

I do like the added ASI and ALT ... mine are hard to read at night in the pattern.

Could this work without field authorization?

[Airspeed] [G5 AI] [Altimeter]
[Mini6] [G5 HSI] [GI-275 EIS]

Can it be installed in Class III aircraft?

I emailed the company and I got a ridiculous “please check the documentation” reply. Anyone know if this is certified for class III ?

Given it only has a TSOA, no on the class 3 or any other classes for that matter. Currently you would have to pursue the approval to install on a class 3 aircraft which I think would be an interesting endeavour.
