[NA] As pilots, what are we switching to as we move away from cargo shorts and New Balance?

I waited a long time to become old enough and curmudgeonly enough that I don’t have to give a flip what the fashion police think.

I will give up my cargo shorts when they pry them off my cold, dead backside!

;)

ATC Memes already beat you to it:

Visual aid for instrument training.
I need to study that chart. :)

We're switching? Who's switching?
If I give up cargo shorts and cargo pants, I'm going back to flight suits.
I love all the pockets. I NEED all the pockets.
OK. In the interests of full disclosure I sometimes, frequently, always forget what pocket my car keys are stashed.

That’s okay, as long as you remember which pocket has the airplane keys. ;)

The great thing about men's clothing is that it doesn't change, because most men just don't care very much. It's a wonderful thing. Why should we? Take a guy going to a business meeting in 1955, and drop him a board room in 2020, and at best he just has to lose the tie.

So to me, cargo shorts mean you've gone from shorts to long pants to shorts again. You're retired, you're on vacation, or you just don't give a crap. I haven't retired yet, and I don't want to telegraph my vacations, so my off the clock wear is just jeans and a t-shirt or polo. Boring, not fashion forward, and I don't care.

Fashion is circular...dont throw away any clothes...they will come back in style sooner or later. I am still waiting for the MC Hammer pants to come back in style from the 80's! (the ones in my closet are neon no less).

Is mowing my lawn in dress socks still in fashion? My wife doesnt think so but what does she know!

No, no.....and no. It's crocs..... lol ;)

In honor of this thread, when I got up this morning I pulled on khaki cargo shorts and a SNF/Blue Angels t-shirt.

Just thought y’all would like to know how you’ve enhanced my fashion consciousness.

Most of my adulthood I wore traditional bluejeans. I got them from L.L.Bean. The other day I got this text from my kid: “I have to apologize for relentlessly mocking you and your mom jeans. Fashion has come full circle and ‘mom jeans’ are back in style and I purchased them.”

Here are "mom jeans" from American Eagle, yes that is what they call them. And below is me in my jeans back when my kid was so terribly embarrassed by me. I also drew chalk runways in the driveway and pretended to fly patterns. My poor kids had such an uncool mom.

I think I actually embarrassed my parents when I was trying to figure out how to make inverted turns…lying on the sofa with my feet over the back and my head hanging down by the floor with a toy airplane. ;)

Sounds like your daughter's choice in fashion runs in her jeans......o_O

You even included the PAPI lights. I'm impressed!

Sadly, it looks like you're flying a high wing..... ;)

Men's Underwear | Duluth Trading Company

They had fly naked boxer briefs at Oshkosh. Awesome underwear.

This cost me about 90 bucks when I was in Oregon last weekend and thought I'd give them a try. I have now sampled each of the four "grades" they offer.

Now they have their sale on and everything is about 30% off, so another 3 hundo down. I should be good for a decade now. :D

I can't tell the difference between their 4 tiers of underoo (except their cheapest one, I can tell that one cut a few corners), but they're definitely a high quality item and I will be rotating some old cootie cruisers out of the dresser when these arrive.

Thanks for the pirep!

Living and flying in the PNW I wear long pants (typically jeans) full time. It is seldom warm enough to consider shorts. That said, cargo shorts sound reasonable to me if the temperature is right.

I don't really pay attention to "fashion". "Fashion" just strikes me as a way to get me to waste money on clothes.

Speedos, Sandals, Ray-Bans, and Coppertone :)

Suit 'n Tie to go fly.

Or trenchcoats. Definitely a trenchcoat over slacks and a long shirt. Preferably wool.

I always get comments from my daughter about my clothes. I told her keep it up, I will dress like her and make her walk through the mall with me. She been pretty quiet lately about my dad shows, and dad shorts.

My son is a High School Junior this year. last week they had a generations day...teachers = students, Seniors = grandparents, Juniors = parents, etc...
He asked if he could borrow my shoes..... huh? He dug out an old white pair of ASICS I haven't worn in forever...sadly I no longer have any New Balance....but he fit the sterio-type part well, complete with a tucked in polo shirt with pocket (that was NOT mine)....although I had to point out how I was dressed at the moment standing beside him... a real-deal old guy NOT dressed like that.....

@texascloud's BBQ photo (post #153) reminds me that I have lived through some truly horrible times for fashion

I almost fall down laughing when I see guys wearing this get into their rented two or four seat general aviation airplane for a hundred dollar hamburger. Sorta like when the chief of a six man police department has five silver stars on his collar.

In that case, I definitely need to get a shirt and epaulets to buzz around in my baby Beech. I like to spread laughter and joy whenever I can.

:)
