Okay, call me sexist, rascist, homophobe, xenophobe........

True, but isn't it sexist that we always switch to the masculine forms of the words, and never to the feminine ones?

And why is it that men wearing dresses is far less common, and more often stigmatized, than women wearing pants?

(As a former girlfriend once pointed out, I think too much! ;))

By the way, why is it that "skinny" people have less skin than fat people?
We're not supposed to use that term now either

Not that it stops me lol

I'm pretty sure we should let the Pilotess decide what to call the people working in the back.

Everything has changed...
Waiter/Waitress - Server
Mailman - Postal Carrier
Fireman - Fire Fighter
Meter Maid - Parking Enforcement Officer
Garbage Man - Trash Collector
Weatherman - Metorologist
Foreman - Manager
Salesman - Sales Rep
Mistress - Homewrecker

They're going to love it when they find out about master and slave hard drives! (Or do those exist anymore?)
One of our software vendors had one of their senior developers go on a little vlog rant about how their product uses the terms "master" and "slave" for nodes in a cluster. He (his declared preferred personal pronoun) said that they really needed to change it to something else without the negative connotations of the master-slave relationship. As I watched it, two thoughts came immediately to mind. The first was that a master-slave relationship is only objectionable when it involves humans, and even then only most of the time -- a tip of the hat to our flourishing BDSM community, whom I would never wish to offend, and of course farmers and ranchers. The second was that I really wished they would put the effort toward fixing some of the massive defects in their product rather that worrying about inventing new things to worry about.

But I COULD CARE LESS, if some conservative hadn't brought it up I wouldn't have cared at all.

I know right...and caucasian has 'asian' in it.
And also, a very male term, but I won't go there ;)

As much as I like bicchy coke machine, I may just start saying "hey Stewie"

probably get this look..

If you get lucky, maybe he or she will duck-tape you to the seat! ;)

Yes, but mainly at a systemic level rather than the individual word-choice level — male (and white, able-bodied, cis, straight, etc) is the assumed "default" in much of how we talk, and we define everyone else based on how they differ from that: an author is someone who writes books; an authoress was a woman who wrote books. Etc.

And why is it that men wearing dresses is far less common, and more often stigmatized, than women wearing pants?
Yep. But also, try telling that to the Scots.

Possibly from the phrase "skin and bones", but no one is sure. It starts appearing in written form around 1600.

Wait until the social justice Warriors and woke Canadians find out about the German and Spanish languages and all of the gender nouns. Let's wait for their heads to explode on that one
Yeah. Los Angeles is a boy city and Las Vegas is a girl city

Gender politics in languages other than English is a whole different thing. Spanish can at least use "x" (as in "Latinx"), but nothing like that would work in French or German, for example.

It's fascinating to be a spectator of language change in 2021: it must have been something like this watching the rapid period of change in English after 1210 (when it took in so much French vocabulary after King John lost Normandy).

There weren't online forums then for people to rant, but we do have surviving documents from the Middle Ages complaining about all the new French stuff. Suddenly, it wasn't good enough to eat plain cow or pig: your food had to use the French words "boef" and "porc" instead. And a good old doomhall became a "court", a doomsman became a "judge", etc. We have nothing on the later English middle ages for rapid socially-induced language change.

I don't like "partner" because it doesn't tell me what kind of partner. I have to try to get that from the context but it's often ambiguous. Is it a business partner? Tennis partner? Airplane partner? Training partner? Romantic partner? I can't tell.

I hear you PARDNER!:p

You opened a can of worms here by pointing out that “human” contains “man”. We can’t have that. Homo Sapiens Sapiens must now be referred to as huperson.

Auughh! I can't keep up! Is it homosapien and straight sapien now?

I expect most people don’t really care about this stuff. It’s just a vocal minority complaining to complain and a few self important individuals who think the world should be tailored to their tastes.

And the losers that jump on board in support because it's the "cool" thing to do.

As if we can't tell by your name, beard, and fat overweight self that you're a him. Like we were ****ing confused.

Yep, agree!

I think that would apply both to the people promoting language change and to the people complaining about it. But you're right that most of us just shrug and adjust to change as it comes.

Lest the nonconformists get 'cancelled'.

Which raises a question that has bothered me for awhile.

If I get 'cancelled', how will I know?

I'm not on twitter or facebook...so if a bunch of users whose opinions I don't value get together and decide I'm 'cancelled', will I get a registered letter or something? I don't know how I'd find out otherwise.

And what if I don't find out? What if I've already been cancelled, and no one told me? I might be missing out on time I could spend basking in the warm glow of knowing I'd ****ed off idiots in the Twitterverse.

I dislike the term..............."the" wife

I prefer the term "bride" for the lovely lady that I'm married to, but "wife" doesn't offend me or her.

Years ago a friend made a statement that I used as the theme for a song that I never finished ...

"Two things a man don't need is a wife and a Chevrolet!" :dunno:

someone will accuse you of sexual misconduct and then another 10 will say #metoo.

Exactly right!

Being "canceled" doesn't really exist outside the fevered imaginations of conservative commentators, so you can decide you have or haven't been canceled anytime you want and you'll be equally right (and wrong). I can send you a certificate if you give me your mailing address. :)

Shows being canceled, episodes not being rebroadcast, people not being hired, or being fired because they hold a certain political belief, not being allowed to open a franchise because of the same, the list goes on. Head in the sand, or just purposefully ignorant? I'll go with the unlisted third option of which if I put into print I'd be banned.

Ready for the newest one...you can no longer call it a "Master Suite" or "Master Bedroom" due to the slavery connotations...It has now been deemed "Primary Bedroom" to be politically correct and not be offensive...

...even though the first reference ever to "Master Bedroom" was a Sears and Roebuck catalog published 50 years after slavery was abolished.

I wish I was making this chit up.

Let's not forget the slaving of the HSI.

It absolutely does exist. Take off your rose colored glasses. I’ve lost count of the various television personalities and such that have either been canceled or silenced because their political opinions don’t align with that of the mainstream.

If by rose colored you mean brown...yes.

My realtor says it was changed because "Master" denotes the powerful male of the household, so it was essentially sexist, not racist.
