An Alabama physician has a stark message for those still resisting COVID-19 vaccinations.

Dr. Brytney Cobia, a physician at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, wrote Sunday on Facebook that she has recently admitted numerous “young healthy people” who are severely ill from COVID-19.

“One of the last things they do before they’re intubated is beg me for the vaccine,” Cobia wrote. “I hold their hand and tell them that I’m sorry, but it’s too late.”

When they die a few days later, Cobia wrote, she comforts their grieving families and suggests they honor their lost loved one by getting a COVID-19 vaccination.

“They cry,” Cobia wrote. “And they tell me they didn’t know. They thought it was a hoax. They thought it was political. They thought because they had a certain blood type or a certain skin color they wouldn’t get as sick. They thought it was ‘just the flu.’ But they were wrong.”

And they wish they could go back,” she wrote. “But they can’t.”

Cobia wrote that she prays the deaths will save more lives by encouraging others to get vaccinated.

“It’s not too late, but some day it might be,” she wrote.

More than 97% of those now being hospitalized with COVID-19 have not been vaccinated, according to Rochelle Walensky, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CNN reported.

Cobia told AL.com that she tries to steel herself when she admits a new COVID-19 patient. “But then you actually see them,” she said.

I now know more people who got covid after getting fully vaccinated than people who got it before getting vaccinated. far more. true story bruh.
But how many of them had to be hospitalized?

Almost everybody I associate with is vaccinated... and still alive. But then I mostly associate with intelligent people who don't believe in conspiracy theories.

Sigh, Eman, Eman, Eman, friend, bruh, pilot. Anecdotal evidence is not proof or fact, it's just a story.

I agree with that. I was just stating my personal experience, which has zero to do with my decision to get or not get vaccinated*

*which I never even said if I was or wasn't, but the extremists just assume what they assume.

Honestly, having been vaccinated and continuing to take reasonable precautions in public and in terms of whom I associate with, I no longer care about those who don't. I figure they fall into a limited group of categories:
  • There are those who already have low risk of contracting or, if they do, will have mild symptoms.
  • We may have sufficient numbers vaccinated for herd immunity to take hold, so they will be fine.
  • If they don't fall into one of those two categories and contract serious illness and pass it on to others who also fall into that category, too bad, so sad. Maybe it will improve the gene pool in the long run.

here's some facts for the people who prefer to listen to that one "news" report they heard:

DIRECTLY from the CDC website, stats on people who got covid who were fully vaccinated for the week of july 12th:

Hospitalized or fatal vaccine breakthrough cases reported to CDC 5,492
Female 2,680 (49%)
People aged ≥65 years 4,109 (75%)
Asymptomatic infections 1,107 (20%)
Hospitalizations* 5,189 (94%)
Deaths† 1,063 (19%)

that's TWENTY MOTHER EFFING PERCENT of FULLY VACCINATED people died from covid. that is a MASSIVE number.

now let's look at total #s:

total US pop: 328,200,000
total us covid deaths: 610,000

that's POINT one eight percent. 0.18%.

just wanted to get a few facts in before the thread locks. maybe we'll get a few "yeah but but but...." "....but cnn said it's weally weally bad, sads face"

No, that is 20% of vaccinated people that had to be hospitalized died of covid, not 20% of vaccinated have died. Over 160 million people have been fully vaccinated.

vaccinated population: 160,000,000
Vaccinated deaths: 1063

that’s POINT zero zero zero zero zero seven percent. .000007%.

I know, math is hard for some people.

ya, it clearly says that in the bolded title of the stats.

"Young" is relative. "Healthy" is as well. There are athletes that die each year from an unknown (until then) heart or other health issue. Everyone would have said they were healthy as well. I'm referencing high school, college and pro athletes, which are all typically "young".

That's pretty simple math. The vaccines do not make people "bullet proof", they teach the body's immunity system how to fight the virus. Vaccinated people can still get COVID, but their bodies know how to fight it better. Some that means it is kicked out in a day, others don't feel well for a few days, a few cases go to the hospital and the rare cases still die. The vast majority have very little symptoms to none, so they don't need to go to a hospital.

That leaves the unvaccinated and the few cases of those that are vaccinated. It's pretty simple math.

ya, it clearly says that in the bolded title of the stats.

But yet, you still misinterpreted the data and stated that 20% (even though you highlighted 19%) of fully vaccinated peopled died from COVID.

can't let CNN (and aviation youtubers) have all the fun of misleading titles. I certainly didn't mean to misrepresent, the info is right there for all who wish to see facts see.

so maybe the # is higher if you include fully vaccinated people who got covid and died but NOT in a hospital? I mean really, 19% is 19%. or 20, you know, if you round up for overly dramatic effects.

1063 / 160,000,000 = 0.000006644 = ~0.000007 = ~0.0007%

I'd rather get covid so I can fight it like a warrior. If I go down fighting then I go down. But with with as little precautions as I took, there is 0% chance I wasn't exposed already.

Do what you feel comfortable with. Every time I turn on the news, which is rare these days, I hear about vaccinated people who are still getting covid, or issues arising from the vaccine, or that you will need a 3 rd shot because of some new version. I my self fall into the low risk category so I’m going to continue to wait. Simple as that.

A very wise man (@bbchien ) once said, you're healthy until you're not!

1063 / 160,000,000 = 0.000006644 = ~0.000007 = ~0.0007%

that's funny right thar.

anyways, I honesty don't know why I got involved in this thread, I usually try to stay out of covid/vax discussions. unlike the extreme left, I respect a persons decision either way. u wanna get vax'd? awesome. you don't? cool. I personally believe there are a LOT of other precautions people can take to be safe, it doesn't just have to be the left's "get vax'd or you're evil" philosophy. also, you know, facts and stuff. also, TURN OFF YOUR EFFING TV for cryin out loud.

have a nice day everyone! I got this strange cough building up, I'm gonna go ask as many people as I can what they think it might be.

I know I was directly exposed at least twice, and indirectly at least another two times, before the vaccine was even released. Still negative. Lucky? Strong immune system? Already dead and just don't know it yet? Beats me. Am I vaccinated now? Sorry, HIPAA, can't disclose that.

I give zero weight to "news" reporting on TV or on line, whether the they are "reporting" something with which I'm inclined to agree or not. I really miss the days when we could have a reasonable expectation that major news sources weren't pushing some social or political agenda.

Breakthrough cases make the news because they are spectacular. What you're missing in hearing that is while there might have been 50 breakthrough cases of people who were vaccinated, almost all those people had minor symptoms. 99.9% of hospitalizations right now are unvaccinated people. If vaccines didn't work, we'd be seeing a roughly 50/50 split in the hospitals.

If you get the shot - good for me, I'm covered. If you don't, good for me, I'm covered.

If you don't get the shot and the virus mutates to something that isn't covered by the vaccines, then you will have screwed all of us to go back to the beginning. Do you want to do all this again in 2022?

that's funny right thar.

So why did you post?

By the way folks, simple division aint "math", it's arithmetic.

If it mutates into something not covered by the vaccine than it doesn’t really matter does it? To be honest, my life was better. Less traffic, working from home, not having to go into stores. YMMV

the only thing that mutates is the amount of made up ways unvaccinated people are blamed for everything.

The reality for COVID-19 (and many other) diseases and treatments is that they affect people differently, which is why no one should be telling anyone else to “get the damn vaccine.” An individual’s health (and treatment status) should remain between him or her and the treating physician(s) if we really want to ensure best outcomes.

Living in a world full of diseases and other threats to public health means that we all have to accept the risk that something someone else has or does could negatively impact us if we happen to interact with them. We have always accepted this risk in exchange for a greater quality of life, up until March 2020. If we permitted “public health experts” to attempt elimination of other similar or greater causes of death or injury, we would end up in a society where both quality and quantity of life suffer dramatically. As with economics, some people don’t seem to understand that there are unseen consequences to every policy action which are easy to ignore but often produce devastating “unintended” consequences.

The reality is that SARS-CoV-2 has behaved exactly like other coronaviruses and even other respiratory viruses. Given the history of such viruses, it is extremely unlikely that elimination is probable or even possible. Mutations are normal, and will likely continue on the same evolutionary path of other respiratory viruses which will result in greater transmissibility but less lethality.

Of perhaps greatest mystery to me over the past 1.5 years is how some have politicized the disease and response and their various attributes. We can apparently tell how someone voted based on whether they’ve had the vaccine, wear a mask, or even by their positions on certain aspects of the disease. We can likewise judge someone’s “expertise” based on their positions, as if all experts must agree in order to validate their true qualifications. If there is one thing I know for sure, it’s that politics and large-scale “consensus” among certain groups of people should not govern the choices made by individuals and their physicians if we really want the best health outcomes for all of society.

Do you want to do all this again in 2022?
I think that is a foregone conclusion. The media and the government won't let this go, certainly not before the next election cycle.

I got vaccinated in January, my wife a couple months ago. Frankly I struggled with it because when the government and media are both pushing for something usually it involves destroying my way of life. Finally they're telling the truth (I think?...hope?), and half the country is suspicious due to the lack of trust built over the last decades.

It gives me hope that there's still a significant proportion of the country who are suspicious of anything the government says. I find it hilarious that the government and media (but I repeat myself) think the answer is to shout it louder. Maybe throwing in some "bad" words will show how serious they are.

I'm in the pro- vaccine camp, but if people who are otherwise at low risk from covid don't want to get it, who cares. Most of them have likely been exposed anyway as they are the same demographic who didn't change their daily habits over the last year. If not, hopefully it spreads through them like wildfire so we get herd immunity and put this thing behind us. I think we're there (or real close) but elected officials prefer having the wedge issue. Shouldn't we be testing for antibodies? Hmm....

Remember when the goal was to not overwhelm the hospitals? Now it seems that anyone ever getting sick again is unacceptable. Oh well. IBTL.
