I am currently a CFII with 1000 hours TT. I am looking to build roughly 12-15 hours of multi time. I hold an MEL and currently have around 10 hours in a Piper Seneca 2. I am hoping to meet someone in a similar situation as me that would be willing to split the cost/time to make the cost a little more bearable for the both of us. Or, someone who is just looking to rent an airplane with me, build cross country time, and have some fun. All of the local airports around me require minimum 25 hours in make/model in order to rent, which I don't have. Getting my MEI is an option, however it is not the route that I'm looking to take. I am more than willing to compensate anyone for their time. I am willing to fly just about anything and I look forward to meeting new people along the way.

You’re talking about trying to break into a multi-million dollar career, but can’t justify the cost?

I would recommend getting legitimate hours, but it seems the regionals don’t care as long as they can check a box.

Which regional is hiring with 15 hours of multi time?

I am currently a CFII with 1000 hours TT. I am looking to build roughly 12-15 hours of multi time to meet regional airline hiring minimums. I am hoping to meet someone that owns an airplane, or someone in a similar situation willing to split the cost/time. I am located in Pennsylvania, but am willing to travel. Any advice?

How much multi TT do you have now?

Getting your mei will add to that
Might be more expensive that way if he doesn't have any multi pic.

I have a multi rating with 10 hours. I need around 15 more to hit hiring minimums. Of course getting my MEI is an option but if i can split cost with someone or meet someone with an airplane and establish a fair price per hour then why not? If I can avoid paying rental and instructor fee that would be nice.

You're still gonna need another 500 hours. Get the MEI, and at least get paid for some of that 500 hours or at least get some of the training cost back?

I qualify for a restricted ATP. i am simply asking for help with building multi time, nothing else. the only thing holding me back from getting hired is the amount of multi time i have. I have 10, i need 25.

Ahhh…. The good ole’ days when a regional wouldn’t look at your app without 1,000 pic multi hours on your resume.

Here's the registration:

Just need one of these:

Problem solved. ;)

Ah, I thought the 141 schools took care of getting the multi time for you as well. Guess that's too much to ask of them. lol

Yep, the good ol’ days of the early/mid ‘90s; back in 1993 I had roughly 4500 hrs total and 2500 ME when I finally got the nod for a right seat gig in a Beech 1900… hard to imagine that now.

Get a corporate job flying right seat in a citation. Much better use of time than 500 more single hours imho.

they should let you wiggle the stick on empty legs. You’ll get real world IFR experience as well.

I hired on a corporate gig at 1500 hrs and 16 multi. I was a cfii as well, and kinda wish I had done this a few hundred hours sooner.

I don't need 500 more hours. i have every other time requirement besides the 25 hours multi.

This post was simply to reach out to see if anyone was in the same situation as me. i was hoping someone on here maybe had access to a multi engine aircraft that we could share the cost of operating. I am not looking to build total time, i have my time requirements satisfied, aside from the total multi time. Regionals require 25 hours multi time, I have 10.

I do appreciate the response though!

I’m not sure what everyone here doesn’t understand. He’s simply asking to cheaply build 15 hours of multi engine time so he can put in his app at a regional airline. He doesn’t need 500 more hours, he doesn’t need an mei, he simply needs 15 hours of multi engine time the cheapest way possible so he can put in his app and be on his way. He doesn’t need some corporate job for a year that’ll hold back a 121 career, doesn’t need an mei, simply needs 15 hours of multi time in his logbook to give him a TOTAL of 25 hours to get into ANY regional right now as that’s all every single one of them require.

Do you know any local pilots with multi engine planes? You’re a well qualified instrument safety pilot and could add a few loggable multiengine hours on the cheap that way. Maybe not 15 hours in short order, but if you want the hours rapidly then the old-fashioned method is always best: pay full price for them.

That is exactly what i am looking to do. unfortunately, i don't know of anyone locally ,that's why i decided to reach out.

maybe it's you who doesn't understand. some random guy on the internet gets on and says "who can pay for half of my multi time while I fly their airplane" and since no one here is going to do that, they are making other suggestions as to possible ways he can get his time. otherwise, you'll get zero responses beyond "get your MEI", like the OP got with his identical post on reddit. zero replies other than get your mei.

shame on everyone here for not letting SGOTI fly your twin so he can build his hours. like no one else on the planet is scrambling to do the same thing.

Ebb and flow. We go back and forth between near unattainable prerequisites to zero prerequisites. It’s all about supply and demand.

I also remember the days when at least one regional was hiring 250 ASEL Commercial pilots and giving the multi ratings.

it's pretty annoying when some of us are clawing just to get a few multi hours at a somewhat reasonable price. I calculated renting to get up to 25 hours and it's nothing short of pure insanity.

NFW is he hopping in my plane with that attitude. I fly with pilots, not minimum-achievement-seeking gamers.

If I had only 15 more multi hours to get hired, I’d be finding the nearest multi to rent and taking it cross country flying solo or with a non-pilot friend to build good experience as quick as I can. To me doing otherwise is wasting valuable time and seniority on a roster. What’s another $3k-$5k for more flight experience when there is a job after that? When I got my CMEL and ATP many years ago I flew a Seminole in a club and did exactly that, some cross-country flying. Got me higher starting pay on my first real flying job because I earned the ATP just before my starting date.

You were able to afford 1,000 hrs of flying but can't afford another 15? Let's assume at least 500 hours of that is instructing, surely there's some savings in there

Multi is not cheap and I doubt anyone will let you fly their baby with such little time without a ridiculous payment up front or crazy insurance policy

You and I probably have enough multi-rated friends whom we enjoy flying with that we are never hard up for a safety pilot. Maybe there is some multiengine pilot in PA who is desperate to avoid an IPC. There are certainly some multiengine owners who would benefit from flying some approaches with a CFII who may not aspire to exceed the minimums, but at least cares about reaching them.

I wonder if the OP would consider traveling to Auburn, CA.

I'm not sure why I'm getting such brutal criticism here. I'm not asking for free time. I'm not asking for anyone to throw me the keys to their airplane. I want to enjoy the perks of aviation. Meeting new people, flying new places. Sure, I Could go down to my local airport and pay for an instructor to fly with me for the remaining time, but I figured I would reach out to see if anyone was in the same situation as me who would be willing to share some time and offset some of the cost. It would be a win win for both pilots. Not sure why some people think that's such a foreign concept.

I remember when I had very little money and was working hard to build any kind of flight time. Getting twin time was high on my priority list. I dropped a flier at every hangar. I walked up and introduced myself to everybody at all the nearby airports. Some offered encouraging words, and some offered not so kind belittling words. In both cases, I replied with a sincere “thank you” and a smile. And, some took me flying. This did not accumulate flight hours as appreciatively as utilizing MEII tickets, but nonetheless, I enjoyed every minute and learned a lot. Don’t be discouraged, young man. If you really want it, then do whatever you can think of to achieve your goal. Good luck. (A little advice here, be polite, learn how to speak, and especially learn how to “ask”).

Thank you. I appreciate the advice. It's a shame that some people here feel the need immediately try to discourage others. I thought the members of this community were better than that.

I remember when getting right seat time in a twin meant you paid for that job... Seriously there were companies that would advertise cost per hour in blocks of 50 to 100 hours so a pilot could build twin time.

Good luck to ya, bud. Everyone on this forum that flew for a living was in your place at one time.

At the risk of not living up to the demonstrated standard of snark, I have put aspiring pilots in the left seat of my aircraft when I had some place I needed to go and let them fly it. I remember scrounging for multiengine time, back when ads in TAP were asking for 3,000 TT and 500 multi to fly an Aztec. I have sympathy and no need of more multi time in my logbook.

So your 10 hours is dual only and you don’t have the MEL yet? And they are going to hire you with multi dual and not the MEL? That changes the cost some to build those last 15 hours. Another $X for an MEI to go along with you. I hate to see someone lose the experience that comes with PIC time, but that’s another problem.

I have my MEL Rating, however the flight schools I have reached out to require 25 hours in make and model in order to rent. I currently only have 10 hours. The only way around that would be to pay for an instructor To come with me

Thanks for the response! What aircraft do you own?

OP, sorry for the lack of reading comprehension! I thought your TT was 1000.

Talk to local king air pilots to see if you can ride on a few xc trips. I got about 10 free hours doing that. Cap’n was a MEL. Ask around.

edit, I re-read your op. I guess where you are you only need 1000tt. I assumed you needed 1500tt like I do.

Not a bad idea. Thanks!
