I was talking to a friend of mine who also built a 10. Just sort of talking about next projects, because I'm itching to build again. I'm familiar with a Super Tucano but looks like someone makes a mini-version as a kit. Similar to that mini-Mustang I suppose.

Anyone familiar with these Tucano kits? Little baby tandem retract looks fun! It doesn't look like an overly complex build either.

I priced up a fully loaded retract one on the website. All in before avionics $125,000 for quick build. That seems really nice!

I have a friend that is a dealer for these airplanes. They have a lot of nice attributes and are a compelling option!

Yeah it really is. Gives you that fighter pilot vibe ;) And in EAB configuration with the boosted Rotax and retracts, the performance is very nice. The LSA is simple and fun. Nice plane.

I come back to this plane a lot. I love the tandem seating and a turbo Rotax that burns Mogas. A tricycle, retractable gear would keep commonality with my other plane. A lot of the composite two seaters coming out of Europe are crazy expensive. This checks the same boxes but at a lower price. Keeping it metal makes it an easier build too.

One thing to consider is is the fact that they only have something like 40 flying planes out there ... not many hours in the fleet.

I am the East Coast Dealer for the Flying Legends Tucano. We have both a Retractable with Constant Speed Prop and a Fixed Gear LSA Compatible model.

We can sell you kits or arrange for a built completed aircraft.

If anyone is truly interested, please send me an email at jeffrey.frank@verizon.net

thanks,

Jeff

Demo flights? I'd pay for a ride in the retract CS one...

I’m 6’6”. I can’t find any info on cockpit dimensions. If I can fit into that I’d be very interested.

I'd like to build an airplane someday, but to be honest, you are one of the few builders who have actually said you are itching to build something again. There seem to be a lot of people who complain about how tough it was or how long it took. Did you blog your last build by any chance?

Edit, immediately after I posted this, I saw your sign line. Looks like I'll be doing some reading.

6'6" is tall. It is possible you could fit, depends on leg length versus body length. I had someone that was 6'5" fit, but you must try it to see.

Where are you based?

Regards,

Jeff

I’m in Colorado. Looks like AZ is the closest place to check it out. I plan to. I’m used to being uncomfortable in airplanes. As long as it’s not a safety factor.

Complainers are probably the most vocal. I've met a good number of folks in the builder community that are repeat builders or come from a background of working multiyear projects. I would assume some people build for the wrong reasons which makes it hard to stay motivated and interested in the project.

Yeah, there are a lot of repeat offenders out there. A lot. I can think of several off hand that i know personally. One has built at least 4 aircraft that i know of, another is on his second RV-10, and one i have no idea - he’s a serial builder that has completed 3, I think, just since I’ve known him. Several others in my EAA chapter have built multiple planes. And the guy that built my RV-12 also built a Falco.
