the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I knew immediately it wouldn't be something I would not want to own.
So then it would be something you would want to own? Trying to figure out the double negative here...

My fault for posting during working hours between meetings. Got to cut down on work as it seems to be distracting.

at least it wasn't a post *during* a meeting...

I failed my mock checkride.
I’ve done that... during my instrument, RNAV-B into C81... FAF to MAP is 3.5nm with 1100 feet to lose to hit minimums and a 25kt tailwind. I think I hit the MAP 200 ft above. It was a good learning experience.

My tuneup flight for my instrument checkride was a complete disaster.... so bad that my cfii was worried sending me. But the nextday was perfect

Yeah, altitude busts away from the approaches. I need to throw the altitude hold on while I configure for the next approach. That's my biggest risk. I also biffed one of the unusual attitude recoveries and won't let that happen again.

I'm posting from the office myself

Thank God for RTK and autosteer. The hardest part now is staying awake.

That’s awesome. I got to drive a tractor once. My roommate’s ex wife’s fam owns sizable acreage and had one of those 8 wheeled (4wheels doubled up) monstrosities. Took something like 10 minutes to figure out how to get it driving. From there it was like playing a video game...clicking random buttons. Semi-auto 16 or 18 speed? I got her up to 20 or 25mph, which was quite thrilling since it feels really fast when the cab is 10 feet in the air!

and for the record I’m posting this whilst having a work meeting.

I transmitted on the wrong frequency the other day. Maybe that goes in the Lessons Learned forum.

A university linguistics professor told his class, “There are many languages in which a double-negative means a negative; and many in which a double-negative means a positive. But in no language does a double-positive mean a negative.”

As the professor paused to let this sink in, a bored voice piped up from the back of the room: “Yeah, right.”

Maybe this should be its own thread…

If you were to guess the highest MEA in Wisconsin, what would you guess? It’s flat, right? So maybe 4000 or 5000.

There is a victor airway over Wisconsin that requires 10,000 for MEA. Mind blown.

According to Google, the highest point in Wisconsin is 1951’.

Yeah V228 SE of Madison? I think it’s reception on that radial from the MSN VOR. I’ve filed /G from DPA to MSN and flown right through there at 6000 and have been fine. Other MEAs and OROCAs near there are much lower.

Yeah, V228 ends at BESIE with a couple of MRA's along the way and then resumes at FARMM. Perhaps there was a VOR that got decommissioned down there but they didn't completely take away the airway.

75% (6/8) of the songs Pandora has played for me this morning have featured Rob Zombie. Now, I like Rob zombie, and for weightlifting music he's hard to beat, but c'mon man.

One of the others was PM5K.

When I run, I play the Audio Machine station. I call it my "battle music". My children (all adults) think it's rather sad.

I’m a fan of Rob Zombie. I’ve been non stop on DragonForce for running.

Been curious for a while. Is the GPS steering accurate enough on it's own to down to like a foot or whatever keeps your tires right between the rows?

Your photo makes mine look quaint but it was still fun mowing last weekend!

Cab tractors FTW for sure... I'm spoiled now.

Yes, RTK is repeatable to an inch or less. If I have to replant a pond, the discs on the planter will go right back into the same furrow. Come harvest I'll use the same guidance lines to run the combine right down the row.

I was a bit surprised when I got into aviation to learn that WAAS is considered state of the art; in ag, WAAS is considered barely accurate enough for anything.

So does this mean in 5 years all of the Garmin whatnot will need to have an upgrade to RTK?

I'm no expert, but as I understand the aviation analog to our RTK correction is the GBAS that some airliners use. That level of precision isn't really needed for GA, certainly not badly enough to justify the ground stations that would be needed.
