Friends - My trusty (and ancient) Sporty's E6B has failed. Does anyone have an electronic E6B gathering dust that they'd like to sell?

I think I have an older (6-7 years old at least) that I don’t use.

For needs that aren’t the official knowledge test taking, the Sporty’s E6B app is good.

You really don’t need an electronic e6b for the IFR written. Bit overkill imo. Most of the math the e6b does for you can be accomplished by simple ratios and a standard calculator. The DA altitude stuff was handy and the wind stuff was handy

I'm doing the CFII written tomorrow and in general agree. There are still a few questions where the CX3 I have will be of use.

I had to go deep back in there for this one. Luckily the poison darts, bottomless pit, spears activated when crossing the beam of sunlight, and the big round boulder didn’t get me.

The photo shows what I have. The Sporty’s E6B, leather case, folding plotter, instruction book, and small reference card.

But no AAA batteries in the house to make sure it works. I’ll get some in the morning.

And for your IFR written, take a look at Sheppard Air if you haven’t already done so. The test prep is just $45, and really aids in knowing the correct answers to the questions. The memory aid sheet is worth the cost.

If you can study and recreate the sheet by downloading to a blank sheet of paper, a huge amount of the questions you will see will be answered by the figures and scribbles you downloaded to the paper.

I used the prep for the FII and scored 98% (missed one of the microburst questions). Total study time was about 18 hours.
 
If you do the instrument rating exam, go ahead and do the Instrument Ground Instructor and Instrument Flight Instructor exams as well. They’re all pretty much the same exam. (Of course the CFI Airplane written is only good for 24 months.)

Next do the FOI written and you’ll have what you need for the Instrument Ground Instructor certificate. You also have met the FOI written requirement for the CFI when you take the FOI and IGI written exams to a DPE or FSDO and issued the Ground Instructor certificate.

Same thing with the CFI written. Take the CFI written for Airplane and then the Ground Instructor written exam. This will give you the Ground Instructor Advanced certificate when combined with the FOI written.
