[NA] wireless 12v iphone charger

I got one for $5 from Menards. It works on everything that can do the wireless charger thing.

I haven't found one I like yet.

I need help with a term or description.
Many of them are air-vent mount type, or somehow hold the phone up high in view of the driver.
I want one that sits flat on the console between driver and passenger. What term to use in search engines for that?

(also need 2.1A or better if possible)
Speaking of which, is there an app that tells me the charging current being applied to my phone?

And, the 'magnetic' type charger... they are inductive and don't really have a strong attractive force such that picking up the phone means the charger comes with it, do they?

Some are noisy (and will cause your radio to break squelch).

Oh, it would have been informative to know you intended to use it for in flight charging. I sure as hell wouldn't. I don't see the point. But sitting on the kitchen counter, they are great.

"Magsafe", "Qi", "charging pad", "charging mat".

I'm still having trouble envisioning what you want. How do you plan to prevent the thing from sliding around your center console as you drive? Are you looking for a phone mount that sits in a cupholder? Or is it some gooseneck type of thing anchored by the cigarette lighter adapter?

The 2020 Tundra has a few recessed places in the console top that a properly sized 'mat' or 'pad' (thanks for these terms) could be accommodated.

Here I was, thinking you meant a portable power bank.

The terminology you’re looking for is “inductive” charger.

?? did not mention flight. Did mention "Driver", not pilot. And the title - [NA] used to mean Non-Aviation here on POA but that might be something that has fallen by the wayside.
Thought I had it covered but apparently not! Apologies.

Bad, my. Understood, I did not.

Most of them just use a USB or USB-C power source so you could adapt most of them to a car.

However with the ones I’ve used you need the phone positioned just so for it to charge right and with acceleration/deceleration and bumps I don’t see a phone staying in place in a vehicle.

A couple of solutions to that:
  • 3D print or fabricate an insert with a relief the size of the phone and charger
  • A Magsafe charger (assumes iPhone 12 or newer)
  • Combination of above

Does a magsafe attach to the phone?
I want to be able to yank the phone off and not drag the charger around.

How strong is the magnet depends on which brand of charger and what kind of phone case you use, if any.

Of course, you could always visit the Apple store and play with the displays.
