Checkride Monday. Yesterday I hear that it is required to have owners manuals in the plane for installed gadgets such has my GPS, Autopilot, and G5s. I've never heard of this, other pilots flying my plane have not looked for this, not part of the ARROW checklist that I can tell.

So, is it a good idea or a requirement to have manuals for installed gadgets? Is there a FAR section that details what is needed and what is not?

Thanks

The flight manual supplements (normally the Limitations section of the supplements) will tell you if other documentation is required to be on board.

Thanks, not sure what those are, speaking a different language. What are flight manual supplements?

Your AFM or POH is required to have certain information in it regarding the airplane. If equipment is added and information regarding that equipment would be required to be in the AFM/POH, they don’t revise the entire AFM/POH. They add a Supplement, usually found in the Supplements section of the AFM/POH.

Just what the term suggests. A supplement to the required flight manual for the new/additional equipment that was installed.

An easy example these days are the supplements that get added for an IFR GPS. Or an engine upgrade, etc.

For example the G5 STC explicitly states that the supplement must be added to the manual in the aircraft.

Here is the G5 supplement

Note that the the G5 Supplement doesn’t require additional documentation beyond the supplement in the airplane, but the excerpt from a 530W Supplement below is an example of one where an additional Pilot Guide is required to be on board.

Yep - got a thick wad of them in my airplane - Garmin 530W, S-Tec 50, GPSS, etc. Amazing how much stuff you need to have on-board beyond the ARROW requirements.

The supplements and Pilot guides would actually be part of the ARROW requirements the way I think of it.:)
