As the title suggests, looking for a good stop over in northern to central Florida. I'd rather make the trip down the keys in good daylight. Thanks in advance!

KSSI. Great place for an overnight, but if you are just stopping for fuel and food, go down the street to Southern Soul BBQ.

+1 for SSI and the BBQ. There’s a nice DoubleTree at the airport if you want to spend the night. You literally park in front of the hotel. The BBQ is about a 10 min walk.

Ill throw in another plug for Saint Simons (KSSI). I stopped there for the night on my way from MA to PR, and it was very convenient. The fuel guys were nice, the woman behind the desk was nice, the place was clean, and the hotel on the field was great. Home2 Suites by Hilton. and they accept pets (which I needed, as I had my 2 dogs with me).

If you’ve got the range, FIN (Flagler Co. In Palm Coast FL) is a good option with cheap self serve and Hijackers restaurant on-site.

EDIT: you better hurry, I literally just watched the fuel price on ForeFlight tick up from $3.52/gal to $3.70. I’ve never seen that happen before :)

It has been a very long time since I was there (in fact, it used to be KXFL not KFIN back then) but it is a cool stop over and the restaurant is awesome.

Didn't through through three identifiers in like a five year span? It was X47, then XFL, then FIN. I guess perhaps WWE sued? Lol.

Thank you for all the help, folks. Hoping to make this trip in early April. C182, so really would be a long day of flying to make it all the way, and I'd rather enjoy the flight over the keys anyway.

Back in my NJ days, I did the flight from Ocean City to the Keys at least once a year.
Plenty of options for stops. Myrtle Beach is about halfway, so Grand Stand CRE or the larger International airport MYR is a good spot. From CRE you can walk to the beach and some lodging. Other alternatives are Savannah SAV and Hilton Head HXD. Depends what you want to do during your layover.

Looking to get a good bite, a walk around to perhaps see something fun, and a comfy hotel. Off early the next morning.

Based on what your objective seems to be, SSI for the win. Hotel on the ramp, BBQ easy walk and you're on your way when you want. I'm based in KFIN, and while it's a great place to stop, there would be some logistics to get to a hotel and back vs SSI. Only other to consider would be Jekyll Island. Couple miles past SSI, they just added fuel and the FBO has an golf cart rental business that could allow you to get to a hotel pretty easily. For a one night stopover, I'd still do SSI.

Dang! I don't live anywhere near there and *I* want to stop overnight there:p

Less crowed, you rent a Red Bug golf cart at the FBO and and cruise around the island (they run on the streets).

Jekyll island days inn. Right on the beach.

IF you really want an adventure, stay in the Jeckyl Island Club Resort. Not on the beach, but a lot of history; you can tour the old mansions on the property. If you bring your white shorts and white sports shirt, you can play on the crochet field they have - you might have to tip the starter. Yeah, think Great Gatsby.
