Does this have any value?

I wouldn’t give a plug nickel for it.

Am I missing something?
Engine core value. Most salvage yards sell complete used engines for same plus 20%. Fast way to put a price on an aircraft like that without having to go through the part-out process.

A PA-28 140. Holes in the panel. Hasn't flown in I'd guess 15 years based on registration. No logbooks at all.

In flying condition that is maybe a $30k airplane. In that condition I'd debated if there was any value in any of parts sight unseen. $8k is never going to happen.

The engine has core value, the airframe is a burden. Hard to place value on the core, maybe $4,500... but then I would subtract $2500 for having to deal with the airframe.

Of it were mine I'd put it in as a one week no reserve auction starting at $0.

I'd need to guess that all steel parts are corroded beyond limits. So the value in the cores i what? The case? I'm not arguing, I'm just not seeing it.

Don’t know until you tear it apart. They take carbs in return no matter the condition for a few hundred bucks, same with mags. Case is likely good, rods, and such. All I know is if you are building an RV and need an engine you will pay 4-6k for a core charge if you don’t have one to return.

But as I said, then you have to deal with the airframe so probably not worth it. Show up with a coupe saws and a track loader and away you go lol

Think at the shop or salvage level. Most cores are repairable. A site unseen O-320 core engine, with all the accessories, goes for $5000 to $8000 at several salvage yards.

I'd haul it away if I was paid to do so. But I wouldn't bid on it to try and expect to make any sort of money.

On the plus side, the wing spar is probably good.

So the seller might be thinking $5k for the engine and a couple for the spar? As I understand it, the early PA-28-140 is not subject to the spar AD.

Well the reserve is more than $8k so I don't know what the seller is thinking!
