S. S. Minnow????

I was expecting something else. A bunch of years ago about the time I was getting ready to buy my first boat, one of the three boats used in the original Gilligan's Island came on the market. It's the one you see cruising out during the titles (though not the one you seem the Skipper and Gilligan at the controls of or obviously the wrecked one on the island). But it was way out in Washington State so I eventually passed.

I was expecting something else.

Yeah, me too.

Back in '97 I was invited to go on a river boat dinner cruise on the Ohio River. The guest speaker was Bob Denver. He spoke a little about ''Gilligans Island'' and mostly about ‘The Denver Foundation’ he and his current wife started to support families of people with special needs.

Afterwards as folks were on deck having drinks and watching the scenery go by, the ship ran aground on a sand bar. We had a good laugh about being ship wrecked with Gilligan.

We were soon ''rescued'' as the captain requested everyone move to the rear of the ship, then hit reverse and backed off, then continued.

Similar ship, stock internet photo.

When my wife supervised the docents at the Air and Space Museum, I gave her the term "The Full Gilligan" for a longer visit (A three-hour tour. A three-hour tour).

my only question is, if the professor was so smart he could build a telephone out of shells, how come he couldn't fix a hole in a boat?

Two words. Mary Ann. She'd dump his nerdy azz in a second when they reached home. And don't tell me they didn't have a thing going. They just kept it on the D & L.

I would have been forced to have him say "WORK?"

And the skipper and his little buddy would be, well, buddies.
