No, this is only hypothetical...lol. Money would certainly be a factor but in light of the Powerball thing was just thinking 'what if'?

So I'm the person that is happy with what he has. I have a 2018 2500 Ram and a modest middle class house. If I won the Powerball I would probably move and would pay off all debts but that's about it. I would probably look more seriously into getting my PPL and my own plane.

That being said, what got me interested was watching 310 Pilot on youtube. Out of the blue it appeared on my youtube homepage so I decided to watch it...and started watching more. The 310 Cessna seems like it would be pretty high on my list but also saw the Beechcraft Baron 58. That would be up there too. So tonight me and my wife were talking the 'what if' talk and she mentioned a jet. I don't think I'd be interested in a jet anyway but that got me thinking...does flying a jet take a special rating? Does the multi-engine rating cover it or is there a specific one for jets? Not talking commercial airliners, just a citation or something for personal use. And like I said above, I'm not the type to be over the top even if I had the money so a jet isn't even on my list.

But what other planes are comparable to the 310 or Baron 58 in terms of twins and 6 seater?

Just a for fun thread...lol

You need to make a correction to the thread title:
How many planes (money not a factor)

Money not a factor....

Buy your own island off Thailand and be done with it.

any jet engine'd plane is gonna need a type rating.

I'd want a plane that expands my mission without alienating most of my current flights. I'd want something 250kts or better, 4 people comfortably with golf bags, and a stripper pole in the middle of club seating.

EDIT: make that 350kts or better
EDIT EDIT: make that 450kts or better

Phenom 300 for domestic travel. G650 for long travel. Import an f16 or 18 for fun. Get a Embraer super tucano(sp) for local buzing around.

300 cause single pilot, g650 for the comfort and ramp presence, f16 or 18 cause theres enough exports and parts to support operation of one , and the embraer cause its slow enough to not break rules and it would be easy enough to fire up and go plus ejection seat if single turbine fails.

We have decided on something that handles 1/2 of the country if we are flying it. Probably an old King Air with Blackhawk engines and Garmin glass upgrades. Then a Netjets membership for long haul, because more than eight hours on a plane requires sleep at the least, and alcohol most likely.

I had not factored imported legacy hornets into this daydream, though. Working some sort of deal with that adversary outfit that bought the Aussie birds is definitely worth considering.

Something easy in easy out plus ice and pressurization so I could do a metric crap ton of Lifeline/Angel Flight. So a cabin class twin.

I would probably do that as a full time "job"

lol. only one plane for me if I get to that point. We have a 25' cabin cruiser boat (2006 Crownline 250CR) and I told my wife I'm not even sure I'd upgrade that if we hit the Powerball. If we were moving to ocean front then I would get something that was more of an ocean friendly vessel but aside from that I'd probably keep what we have. The thought crossed my mind about keeping this boat up here and having another down south but that would be foolish. I'm a simple guy...lol.

Oh, and I pointed out to my wife that a jet would require longer runways so that would limit where we could go

Guess I'm old school........ "If it has a radio, it MUST have a bunk, no bunk,NO radio...." Thats the requirement. Yes I'm old, I may also like an RMI and even maybe slaved........:)

That plane will need to go offlline due to maintenance a lot more often than you'd think. You'd better think of at least 2 planes if you want to fly with regularity.

None of us here need more than one airplane. And you'll be very happy if you have a Gulfstream G700 :D

Gulfstream Hits Triple Digits on G700 Flight Testing

"...Powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines, the G700 has an intended maximum operating speed of Mach 0.925 and a maximum cruising altitude of 51,000 feet, but as part of the test regime, the aircraft exceeded both, reaching Mach 0.99 and an altitude of 54,000 feet. The G700 will be able to fly at least 7,500 nm at a long-range cruise of Mach 0.85, Gulfstream said.

The large-cabin jet offers up to five living areas, the largest galley in the industry, a 100 percent fresh cabin air system, and the option for a master suite with shower..."

One airplane...and one of these to deal with the minor issue you describe above. Almost no limits as to where you and Mrs. optionizerSS can go. ;)

Cirrus vision jet is a pretty nice personal jet. There’s one based at my local airport. Personally, I would want something that I could take a decent amount of cargo, IFR, and into smaller strips. I would go with a g1000 cessna 182 or turbo 206

lol. Gulfstream is a little over the top for me but man it would be tempting...lol.

C172 would probably be out. With the lower payload it would really limit us. I do like the G1000 though. If we won the Powerball good chance we move somewhere down south and would likely fly back here often and probably be taking our adult kids and their spouses so I'd need at least 5 seats (1000lbs for all passengers, including me). A C206 might work but if money weren't an issue then I'd probably go with twins

If I had to pick a single Money is no Object Mobile I would be a TB20. Its Roomy around the shoulders, has a bit of zip, and looks good on the ramp. Its a touch thirsty in the air but this is a Money is no object mobile after all.

lol. Well just checked our tickets and we won. Yeah, I think $7. We have 2 numbers and the powerball on 1 ticket...lol

My dream machine would be a Staggerwing. It's just that simple.
My dad also loved the Staggerwing. He had a J-5 Piper , Sold it to buy a house in town that had electricity , running water , natural gas heat , a real lawn and one block from the school. No more driving us kids to school in the 38 IHC pickup.

Older Falcon 50 with the newer engines. Don't want to learn the avionics of the new Falcons. GII and or a 707 would be fun also, burn lots of fuel and make smoke.

If I was on Basic Med. Staggerwing or Spartan Executive.

Yes, every jet requires a type rating which is a checkride flown to ATP standards for the initial type and then a recurring annual checkride as well (you can alternate every other year if you are maintaining two type ratings). It is quite a bit more training for a small jet than it is for a comparable turboprop for example.

If I were only going to be given one plane, and all the maintenance, fuel for it, I would take a Viking 400 on amphibs.
Then I would buy myself a fun acro plane.

If I just had to spend it on ONE plane.... If I won 10 mil, I would get an M600. 20 mil, an M600, 30 mil.... I am just not interested in riding in the back, and nothing against pro-pilots, but I enjoy flying myself. I would want a plane that could go slow, go fast, fly low, fly high, take off on high, hot, short, contaminated runways. Now if I could get a fleet would bring in some specialty planes. A bush plane, a turboprop, a single pilot jet. I keep thinking about what my next plane will be, and got nothing. :-(

I just love the way she looks, and feels and flies, the technology, the range, payload, reliability, all purpose mission. I need an intervention ;-)

is that yours?

Yeah. 2019. She just crossed 700 flight hours. My comprehensive service package, Piper ultimate which covers all maintenance, inspections, parts, service ends at 1000 hours, so a tiny incentive to do something soon. Maybe another M600

Congrats! Beautiful airplane.

Buy a new multi million dollar plane, trade it in on a new one because it has 1000 hours. I like your style
Can i have your old M600 when you get the new one? It would be by far the newest and lowest hour plane I ever had.
If you feel inclined to leave your fuel card in it for me, that would be great since it probably uses 30 gallons per hour.

That would be nice. ;-) About 50 gallons the first hour and about 40 gph subsequent hours. At least JetA is relatively cheap in the aviation world. With fuel cards averaging a little over $3 a gallon. Hanging out with poor folks?? Heck, I spend all my money on flying, so poor right there with you

Powerball?

Dream machine?

There would be 3:
(1) find an aerostar and spare no expense in turning it into my ultimate personalized machine

(2) there is one Aerostar jet flying around, wonder if I could buy it and fly it with an experimental certificate or if I'd have enough Powerball winnings to have a second one built as an experimental?

(3) Antonov AN2

Jets are cool and all and a pc24 would be a really cool thing to own someday but part of me loves the appeal of propellers and being able to fly into small airports

With a jet options like Oceano, Kern, Death Valley, Catalina, etc become less realistic, less feasible, and in some cases less legal
